what time of the year do channel catfish spawn?i've been told not many will make it,we have a 5 acre pond and i know last year they did spawn.would you think enough would surive so we would not have to restock are should i plan on putting more this year.we stocked 150 2 years ago and have removed 130 so far.we do know some of the fish taken out were spawned in our lake due to the size,so i know some of the original cats are still in the pond.if i add more what would be a good number to add?we were thinking another 150-200.is this to many for a lake managed for bass.

I agree with lee, your young cats probably won't make it unless you have running water, that's why they thrive in rivers. In Texas, the only cats that seem to reproduce in ponds are the undesireables. Here, I would push back lee's spawn dates to May and June. If you harvest them, plan accordingly. If you take out 100, stock 50 in spring, another 50 in Fall...it helps to have different sizes !!! You never read it when it comes to stocking rates, but you'll be glad you did !

If bass are present, stock 12 inch cats. Anything smaller is an easy meal.
