Does anyone know of a good fly for RES. Mine are on bed and a black dragon is not irritating enough. Thanks in advance! David

RES don't seem to like to take anything off the surface. I have done well with bead head wooly buggers - they can't resist them.

Captain,
Do you make your own or are they available? My dragons are weighted but not as thick as a wooly bugger.

I have not targeted them recently but a little black foam bug with rubber legs should work. Should be able to find them at WallyWorld or Acadamy. ps: Are you attending the upcoming PB Conference? If so and IF they let us do our fly fishing thing, I'll show you how to tie a foam bug and a wooly bugger. The only difference is my buggers have bead chain eyes and sink, whereas the foam bugs have no eyes but a foam back with rubber legs - they float and "gurgle" and wiggle their legs. They are really easy to tie - craft store sheet foam and rubber spinner bait skirt material on a #10 hook. Google you/tube foam flies for good instruction.

Sorry to highjack, but that sounds like a great little session topic I would enjoy thoroughly: Top Ten Fly Patterns for your Pond and how to tie them without losing your mind!

George,
I went to the first PB conf. in Atlanta a few year back and won one of your flies. I was hoping you would reply to this thread. The RES have hit my dragon in the past but have slowed down the last two spawnings. The dragon I use has the bead eyes and rubber legs. I will try to find a wooly w/ beaded eyes (maybe the bigger body will help). They are not to keen on top water.

I think a ton of pondboss disciples would REALLY benefit from instruction - my Father has tried a several times to teach me and I simply lose myself wrapping the elk hair "tent" on a tan caddis and end up with nymphs that resemble nothing natural in a stream - so I gave up. Maybe I'd have better luck this time.

dpender, I buy the wooly buggers I use. I have found that a gold bead head, (about the size of a BB) in all black or lime green work best. I drag them across the bottom and they can't resist them.
