I have a friend with a 2/3 acre pond stocked with yellow perch. perch at this point are all sizes up to 9 inches. Our question is could he stock golden shiner fry and not have the shiners over populate by reaching a size that the perch could not eat. Using this as an option to fatheads because of cost.

It all depends. If spawning conditions are not correct in the 2/3 ac pond, it is very doubtful the g.shiners will overpopulate. If the shiners overpopulate one should be able to trap or seine a lot of them out to thin their numbers. If shiners become abundant one could add a few SMB or one sex SMB or male LMB to help control shiner numbers. The main disadantage to adding g.shiners to a perch pond is the larger GS will bite a worm baited hook and can be a pest in that regard.
