Other than the first winter I have never seen my water so clear. 6' right now and believe it's might be due to all the bushy pondweed in the pond. I also have FA all around the ponds edge and a little worried about adding any fertilizer right now because it might stimulate the FA growth. I found a sk of 0-46-0 under the shed and having thoughts of using it but thought I might ask others before I added a few pounds of it to the water. The ponds surface water temps are running in the low 60's and high 50 a few feet down. I've been thinking of adding Alfalfa instead of the chemical fertilizers because of the plant growth but when I stumbled across the old fertilizer sk I thought I might just ask what the more experienced might have to say.

Thanks

I would not add the phos fertilizer when the weeds and FA are present or you will create a weedy MESS. Get rid of the pondweed and treat the FA with an algaecide then after a week and they are dying then add your fertilizer. Kill the bushy pondweed with brand of diquat herbicide such as Reward, Alligare Diquat, Harvester or Tsunami. It kills and dissipates fast.

Thank you Bill. Thought I would ask before I did something dumb. I have stayed away from chemical treatments for the most part and went with 10 - 14" GC for weed control last spring and will be adding TP in a couple of weeks. Maybe between the two of them I can get some type of control. I guess I will add some alfalfa in a spot or two and see if that can get some plankton/zoo plankton going.
