My lake is approx 5 acre's located in Northern California foothills elevation 2700ft,spring fed with no runoff. The water is extremely clear and I have never fertilized the lake. My goal is to increase the number and size of forage fish(Bluegill)by fertilizing. Can you offer any advice on what type of product to use ,when to use it and how to apply and where it might be purchased
lots of info to answere you question keep reading. Recommend water soluble 10-52-4 appy at 8 lbs/acre once water temp hits above 60 once bloom established apply 4 lbs/acre to obtain 18-24 inch visibility if maximum fish growth is you goal.
Frank,
Does your water flow? Spring fed ponds tend to overflow. Fertilizing becomes touchy. If your water flows, does it overflow from the top, or through a pipe at the bottom? Tell us more, and someone will help.
My pond is located in south Ala. 17 miles from the Gulf of Mexico. We have average temps of70/42 with 62" of rain per year. My pond is 496'x196x240x360 and is 8 1/2 feet deep, 3 weeks ago you could drop a quarter in and see it on the bottom. Now it's green 10" from surface. All due to 200 lbs. of lime and a 24 lb. bucket of slow release fertilize that floats in the middle and lasts for 30 days.Today,I'm putting another 200 lbs. of lime in.
