I was planning on starting a fertilization program next spring in my 3 acre pond, it is fairly shallow avergage depth being 3-5ft and some very shallow areas. It has large amounts of grass in the warmer months and now that it is cooling off it has slimey snot on the bottom that I pull up with cranks. I was under the impression that fertilizing would help my grass problem but I read last night in an article on american sportfish that fertilizing a pond pond like mine would make things worse http://www.americansportfish.com/?option=com_content&task=view&id=45&Itemid=72 . Can anyone give me some help on this topic, I was really looking forward to the benefits of getting a good program going. BTW I am thinking about adding grass carp next year!?

The grass should die this winter thus starting a fertilization in the early spring may result in decreased visibility deterring the grass growth. However if it gets ahead of you then fertilizer is like adding fuel to a fire.
