Talked to Todd Overton yesterday. He is getting in some 13" Grass Carp this week and I will be picking some up this Coming Saturday. Hopefully they will start chowing down on my Bushy Pondweed Sunday. We also discussed additions of Tp and came up with a plan to add 100 lbs of Tp to be used as fall forage for the lmb. These Tp will be in the 3 to 6" size and hopefully they will help my lmb fatten up for the winter. My thinking is by adding them now and if they follow my past experience with Tp @ the pond, then I will see them slowing down and out by the first couple of weeks in December. I did add 50 lbs of 6" Tp last April but I have not seen any since then. My past experience with Tp and the fall die off is they most likely feed my lmb but they also feed the Bald Eagles and an Osprey along with some river otters that show up. the otters didn't stay very long due to some pressure applied by me. Traps and gun powder will deter them!

My TP seem to have done fine, no need to restock. Now that temps have finally cooled a bit, want to have electro harvest of excess skinny LMB. Afterward, I'd like to get a couple dozen F1 LMB in sizes big enough to mostly survive.

Tracy, was I for or against a budget? I don't remember, but it was probably me telling you not to have one. I always like spending other people's money.

Al, it's all good I'm headed out this morning (6 hr round trip) to see Todd or I hope to see him when I drop by his place to pick up the 3 to 6" Tp. I just thought I would add the Tp for additional forage so the HSB and LMB can fatten up before December. My son told me the larger sized lmb and hsb can be hard to catch because of all the CNBG, TFS, Tp and Golden shiners that are in the pond, so I thought I would add some more We will see how it all turns out.


I am also picking up 10 GC. Hoping to find some in the 12 to 13" size.

Well, I made the trip. Talked with Todd while they gathered and bagged the fish. I always walk away a little more knowledge about ponds and fish after talking with him. He picked me out some 15" grass carp and boxed um up 5 to a box along with Ten boxes of Tp. There were a lot more 3 to 4" over the 6" size, I like that. Not sure how many to a pound but with a hundred pounds there were a lot of these small Tp. Should workout great for some additional fall forage for the lmb and Hsb. I did see a few of them getting attacked when I added them to the pond. We also talked about using Aquathol, he can ship it direct to the house if I decide I needed it. He recommended the granular, said it was easier to apply and lasted longer. No going back again and again spraying the bushy pond weed. The pondweed is growing like an epidemic, the water is getting clearer and in the deeper water, the bushy pond weed has been growing pretty thick.

Tracy, I've used several granulars, and I like applying them. Much easier than setting up, applying, and then cleaning a spray tank.

If you go that way, be sure and always stay upwind of the application, and suit up.

Thanks Al, good thing u mentioned that. Did not think about dust since it was granular. The Bushy pond weed is really clearing up the water, I figure it's sucking all the nutrients from the water along with it acting like a filter and cleaning out any excess turbidity. Not sure I like it, and I am thinking it could cause me to lose my TFS population since there would be less food for the tfs. Pond is going through some changes that I have not seen before.

I had a horrible outbreak of bushy pondweed this year in my RES/SMB pond. Had a modest amount last year but this year it exploded. Snorkeled the pond a couple times a few weeks ago and could not believe how thick and deep it was growing from. Maybe a third of the pond covered including my under water humps out in the middle. Put 4 grass carp in the 1 acre pond recently so hopefully they will help with the control come next spring.
