Greg Grimes came out to the pond today and shocked. Saw some better fish than what we have been seeing in past years. Heres a couple of the biggest bass. Ill post some more pics later when i get them.

There was plenty of forage. Shocked up tons of threadfins and intermediate bluegill. Some of the bass that we shocked up i had tagged back in 2009 and they havent grown at all. While others had excelent growth. We are guessing that the ones with the better growth are some of the F1's that Greg brought me last year. We shocked up one that had went from 12.5" in febuary to 14" now. Most of the bass we shocked up looked great and were spitting up shad in the live well. I was very happy with the results from today vs back in 2010 when we shocked. There wasnt hardly any forage then. I have culled over 700 12" bass since 2008 and added tons of forage. Im glad that im finally starting to see some positive results from all my hard work and money spent. What was shocking is that we didnt shock up a single crappie. I have been taking out every one i catch trying to get rid of them. I removed about 300 last spring and was only able to catch 44 this spring and fished hard for them. I was still expecting to see a few but luckly we didnt. Im gonna try to keep culling the bass but on a relative weight basis instead of length. In the past i have always culled anything less than 12". Ill post some more pictures when i get them.

If was fun today. Glad we got up big mama for you. Thanks to Jes we are Learning some interesting things. He tags all bass that are returned to the lake. Some have basically not grown more than an inch in 4 years. I think genetics has alot to do with this. Old ponds that are fixed with harvest alone might not correct themselves. The new bass seem to grow much better. More on this later.

I forgot to tell yall in my post earlier that the 4 biggest bass shocked up didnt have tags which meant they havent been caught at all in the last 4 years and i fish 2 or 3 times a week so thats just unbelievable they have avoided it for so long. Actually only 4 or 5 of the bass we shocked had tags and there are over 75 i have tagged. We shocked about 25 that didnt have tags. Its crazy how hook shy some fish are and others get caught 10 times a year.

Yep and one of the options is to use shocking to get the non-biters out. They will reproduce and their offspring will be a much higher % of non-biters. So use the shock boat rather than just angling to reduce LMB #s.

What are you using for a tagging system? I have been trying to understand what I need to tag LMB in my pond.

These are great fish. I too have noticed that some of the fish I have tagged have not grown much either. I was wondering if the tag had something to do with it, but I think it is the fact that they came from a stunted pond and just have not grown.

I guess as long as they still eat, they are keeping some of my smaller BG under control.
