I don't know how they got in my pond, possibly through the canal, but does any one have any ideas on how to get rid of them? I have bass, blue gale, sunray, and cat fish...and some how carp. I'm thinking of draining the lake, but there should be an easier way, is there a fish that just eats carp??
PLEASE HELP!!!

THANKS!

Welcome to Pond Boss JEmery! Carp are not an easy solution. The only two solutions I know of are draining and retenone. Perhaps some others on here will have better advise for you... What kind of bass do you have? What is a blue gale, a sunray and what species of catfish do you have? Best of luck...

Welcome, JEmory.

Could we get a little more info on the pond?

How big, how old, how established is the fish population, as C-3 asks, what kind of bass, how many and how large?

Also, how big are the carp, and how many? Do you feed your fish?

What would be the safe blast radius if we recommend the TomG Solution?

I have learned to love them, well sort of, the third option.

First, welcome to Pond Boss.

Like CJ..... above, I've unfortunately never heard of a blue gale or a sunray fish. I tried Googling them, but with no success.

How big is your lake? Are your bass largemouth? What kind of catfish? How big are these carp? Are they "common" carp? How big have the biggest gotten?

Predators, draining, poisoning, and a few other methods are all possibilities, but we need a little more info.

Regards,
Ken

Welcome to Pond Boss.

To answer the questions about blue gale:

blue gale is the southern pronunciation of bluegill.

I thought it was "bream." \:\)

I assumed blue gale was bluegill, but I'm still perplexed on sunray fish. JEmery, when you say sunray, do you mean green sunfish?

quote davatsa "I thought it was "bream."

For years, I was happy perch fishing. Then I came here and found that I had been Lepomis fishing and perch were only caught up Nawth. Well, imagine that. Now, I have to go to the archives here and properly identify my quarry.

Lusk is certainly no help. He has altered Texas stock tanks and Geogia/Mississippi pools into ponds. I sometimes go to a local coffee shop in Bowie and I'm known as that fish guy. Not real unusual for one of them to tell another one "Hey, there he is." I get a lot of questions and when I say ponds, some of the old ranchers look at me kinda funny. One of them asked me "Where you frum, fellow?" I told them I was originally from Muleshoe but now live in Fort Worth. No tanks in Muleshoe, huh? Another said that I sure must have an awful lot of education.

I guess I have been Yankeefied.

I've always seen it spelled "bream" but pronounced "brim."

I feel the same way, Dave. If it ain't tanks and perch, I get odd looks in my neck of the woods.

Funny how we try so hard to get educated and then hide it.

I may get odd looks from you guys, but behavior like the above is accepted around here. The town motto is "You're ugly, and your Mother dresses you funny."

I'll try my best at a suggestion for getting rid of some of those Carp. More of a suggestion question mix. Would he be able to get rid of the carp or at least reduce their numbers by overstocking LMB at least untill the carp are under control? I would think that would reduce their yoy. Then to get rid of the adults he could feed them for a while, until they get comfortable and then start shooting them when they show up for dinner. This would work with the GC but I'm pretty sure the Silver carp are filter feeders.

Like I said I am just giving this my best shot. I've never had a carp problem but If I did I guess this is where I would start. Hope this Helps JEmery, or at least sparks some more suggestions for carp reduction.

JEmery, It would realy help if you would let us know what kind of carp we are dealing with, and some basic info about your pond.

I think we lost JEmery a long time ago. Maybe there should be a warning flag that goes up before your 1st post. "There is a slight possibility that this topic will divert from the original thought process."

Dave D, it almost sounded like you used "yankeefied" in a POSITIVE manner??

Things never go off topic on this forum!

Oh yeah Dave, it'd positive from MY perspective. However, I have to be careful around here and not revert to my slothful ways.
