Long time looker 1st post!! Starting to build a new pond next week looking at being between 3/4 acre - 1 acre, max pond depth is 16 ft planning on stocking FM ,YP,SMB,RES,HBG,CC, and Walleye as a bonus. Any recommendations on amount would be great, does this seem feasible? Im putting in pallets for structure gravel beds, PVC structure, rip rap piles and ceder trees . Hoping to have a quality SMB, YP, and CC pond. I plan on restocking the CC yearly and take out all I can eat.

I'm not one to be able to advise on such, but maybe I can ask a few questions to help the process out.

Does FM = Fat Head Minnows, if not, what did you mean? If so, you should consider getting the FHM population (or any forage population) up and very strong before introducing the other fishes the following year. I am hanging my hat on the idea that the extra year wait before stocking game fish will pay off in extra game fish growth during their first few years by feeding on the abundant numbers of minnows.

Do you plan on the Walleye to be the population control predator(along with the CC)? I am not familiar with the recruitment of YP and SMB, but balancing the populations of all the species seems to be a very important consideration when planning your stocking numbers. You may want bigger predators in the right numbers to help control the more reproductive species and on the flip side, you need ample spawning of the smaller fish to keep the larger fish fed.

Will you be feeding the fish pellets? If so, supplemental feeding or daily (and how many times a day)? Feeding can reduce the need for spawning. Your HBG will not produce a lot of forage for the larger fish. Maybe YP and SMB will so long as you have the proper habitats for such.

Do you plan to aerate the pond? Not sure of the relevance of this question, but it's bound to be asked.

Please do not take my post wrong, I can see nothing wrong with your direction, but I would not know if it hit me in the face. The answers to these questions may very well have an impact on your stocking plans. Hopefully, the experts and take this an run a bit...

Yes FM was ment to be fathead minnows. The Walleye are kinda there as a bonus fish but also thought they would aid in the control of the panfish. I will not be feeding any pellets and will not be aerating the pond. I'm curious on what numbers I should stock on all the fish. I would really like to have quality YP, SMB, and CC. The CC I will take out as much as possible to eat.

Do you plan on a continuous stocking of FH? You have multiple predators and one major forage fish (FH) of small size.

I wasn't planning on restocking the minnows probably gonna give them a year head start. Do you think I should go with regular BG for forage instead of HBG

HBG are usually mostly males so they will not produce a lot of offspring for forage.

I wonder about a mix of HBG and regular BG but that is not a normal recomendation so there is probably something wrong with the idea. With the predators listed you need a forage fish but absent LMB you don't want excessive forage production.

I'm just thinking out loud. No recomendation in what I say. Someone with more expertise and familiar with your specific area are the ones that will have good recomendations.

Maybe with the right cover (to produce lots of offspring) YP might do for your forage fish for your SMB and not need BG at all. HBG are pretty good predators of small fish themselves.
