Hello all! I have a 1/4 acre pond that is 2 years old. I have stocked it with fat head minnows and shiners last year and would like to add perch. My question has 2 parts, are perch a good choice for a pond this size and does anyone know of a hatchery that sells them? Thank you!

wendymichele,
....welcome to Pond Boss....I don't know much about fisheries up in the Maine area, but I'm sure one of the pros will be along shortly to help you navigate through...tons of good info and helpful folks here. Post pics of your project when you have time.

Yellow perch(YP) will survive in your pond as a panfish. You will need a predator fish present to reduce their number of offspring. Yellow perch can overpopulate a pond without predators. Consider adding a few (5-10) smallmouth bass in addition to the perch. Neither YP or smallmouth will bother swimmers in your pond. To locate stocker fish in MA try an internet search. The Maine DNR should have a list of fish suppliers for Maine.
