First, why green sunfish? We much prefer the coppernose bluegill, which is just as prolific on the spawning bed, cheap to buy, easy to feed with pellet protein, but it has smaller mouth than the greenie so it doesn not compete with bass for food. Better yet, the coppernose reaches weights exceeding 1 pound.

If you insist on sticking with greenies, feed them floating pellets. Stocking fatheads in a pond with established green sunfish populations will bring only minimal and temporary benefits. The fatheads, called "tuffies" in Arkansas, will never get a chance to replace themselves with a spawn.
