Newly built pond. Just barely under 1/2 acre. Most of pond is deep(deepest is 13.5ft).
Goal of pond: swimming, asthetics-home overlooks it, and fishing: mainly simple sunfish fishing for kids but would like to also be able to catch bass and catfish and plan on eating some fish.

Just stocked yesterday with 400 coppernose bluegill and 100 Channel cats. I was advised to wait until next year to introduce the HFLB so the bluegills could get established and reproduce....Are these numbers ok? if not another fish truck is coming to my home town this coming weekend.
Also-yesterday the truck had large koi: I bought one for the fun of it(Have kids and pond is super clear-thought it might be fun to be able to see especially while feeding, but I only bought 1 because of fear of reproduction(Pond I grew up with had large grass carp and as they got bigger they seemed to effect the bass population by destroying the bass beds when they came in shallow to forage.
Is my assumption on the grass carp correct or should I consider purchasing a couple for control of growth in pond?

I have often considered adding an albino catfish or two, maybe a carp/koi to my small pond for "kicks", but certainly have not found it necessary as of yet. My pond is only a year old. I don't think you are doing anything terrible by adding a koi for fun, but I would not add two. Koi can be a dirty word if you goal is anything other than a lot of koi in a muddy pond. I would not add any carp until you see a need for them. With a mostly deep pond, you should not have a lot of problems with vegetation, so, I would wait on adding any carp. There are plenty of ponds out there with no carp, and IMO it is typically the old ponds that have silted in and get real shallow around the edges that have problems with overgrowth and could utilize a carp's appetite for veggies.

200 CC per acre is about double the high stocking rate, so I'd want to remove a lot after they reach eating size. As for Koi, adding them will almost guarantee a VERY muddy pond after they spawn the first time...they will root around the bottom constantly....your single fish is fine, or more, IF they are all the same sex!

Only add Grass carp if vegetation becomes too heavy, and then only 4-5 at most....then remove a couple of the largest and replace them every couple years after 3 years....I don't think GC would mess with Bass reproduction.

As for the stocking...I'd suggest adding 50-75 Redear Sunfish, about 600 more CNBG and straight Northern Bluegill (you're on the northern edge for Coppernose habitat) and 5-10 pounds of Fathead minnows. Along with your LMB (no more than 40, max, with your current 400 cnbg) you could add up to 25 Hybrid Striped Bass for dded angling fun!
