Ordered 4 koi for pond and put in my 55 gal tank so they don't become a herons most expensive snack ever. They are 5 inches. Here is the plan. Got two black koi And two white ones. I hope to get aleast one female of each so i dont turn my pond into carp heaven. I'm going to grow in tank till I can properly sex them. Then add two one white and one black to pond. I plan to name them Black and White. Clever! Lol.

The two black ones arrived FedEx today. The two white ones should be here tomorrow.

They say they will turn fully black as they mature.

Not sure you will see your black ones much. It's amazing how rarely I see some that are brightly colored... Make sure you sex them correctly, or those block genetics will mean they blend in well and if they have babies will be just like common carp. A mess!

I'm gonna seriously try not to mess this up. I've been studying hard on sexing these things. It doesn't look that hard. Male has one anal slit and female has two. I will check with you all too with pics before any fish goes into pond. I want to keep these strictly cosmetic pet fish.

Not to mention I have $150 invested in this project between fish and overnight shipping. I'm still amazed FedEx picked these fish up at 17:30 yesterday and I had them in my possession at 15:00 today from California. Lets see how ups can compare now. My white koi were dropped off at 18:32 tonight in North Carolina. FedEx did drop off the black koi at my neighbors house, but luckily he brought them right to me when he found them. They appear very healthy.

I have well about 20, 5 year old Koi in my pond. I have have never seen a baby. all mine are colored and many are butterfly. I have limited spawning/nursury cover and a serious GAM problem though. They really did a number on the FA........... thats the good thing.
They are really nice to watch at feeding time too.

Cj is right, the black one will disapear...You might decide later you should have gotten colored ones if your intent was viewing them in the pond...

That black one reminds me of when I watched a buddy's dog. I have a Springer Spaniel. White and Liver. I'm in the country, very few lights in general at night, so if there's no moon, it's DARK! My buddy's dog is a Black Lab. She flat out disappears into the darkness at night, where I still can see mine faintly.

I think you'll have a hard time seeing that fish in the pond.

Ups won that round dropped off at 18:32 last night and in my tank at 09:35 this morning. Amazing what the fish must of went through. As for not being able to the see black one. I think I'll be alright. My koi last year before draining pond would eat out of my hand. They had to fight off the bluegill first. Not sure if the black ones will be as friendly. Only time will tell.

A quik video of fish. One of the white ones appears not to have scales except along Dorsel fin.
