Good evening all,

First time posting... thanks in advance for any response.

We are in the process of completing a 1.5 acre pond that includes depths from 28" to 14' (approx 30% at 14'). The pond will be aerated and will be fed... looks like Aquamax is the site favorite.

Goals: Quality fishing with an opportunity for big-trophy fish

Forage Fish: FHM, TFS, Glass Shrimp, Paper Shell Crayfish
Extras: Tilapi,RES
Predator Fish: HBG, SMB, HSB

I plan to feed and supplement FHM and TFS as needed.

With the right structure and management, is it possible to have a successful fishery to include predators like HBG, SMB, HSB?

Great site!

Welcome to Pond Boss.

I think you are starting with a good plan.

The one thing I see as a long term issue will be that one of the predator species will become dominant - probably the HSB. The SMB will probably be the first to lose out. However they can be restocked, just like the HSB will need to be periodically replenished.

But, I think you've got a good starting plan.

TFS are generally best in ponds that are 3+ acres. You may want to go with GSH instead. If you do go with SMB, I'd strongly recommend obtaining feed trained fish. It'll increase the pounds per acre your pond can support and help your forage from be over eaten.

I'd be very interesting in an update on this story sometime this year. Good luck!!
