I believe you got a friend to some, a foe to others...the magnificent GSF. (I think blush)

That fish looks like a nice specimen of a pure strain green sunfish. Notice the distinct emerald green streaks on the gill cover. the mandible is large extending to past the front of the eye. The pelvic fins when extended will be cream or light yellowish.

I think this pond was once stocked by the famous farm store fish truck.

Is this the big pond or a different one?

Are there any LMB in it?

Probably 'Ole Mudcat Joe's been by your place too.....

GSF Joe more likely ! They have been observed jumping 20 feet into an inlet pipe to go upstream to a new home.

Bullheads like greenies... grin

GSF jumping 20 feet? Wow!!!

There's an 18" drop from the outflow pipe at my pond, not one has gotten by. I guess the GSF in VA are pathetic.

I was shocked to read that also (20 ft jump). IIRC the vertical part was 2 feet with a total of 20 ft. Give your VA GSF time - they just might replicate the event.

Pond has been around for 10 years. Maybe dump some steroids in to bulk them up.

One thing Greenies are really tuff. they make the best bait fishing for flatheads or any other fish that likes a lively bait.
