Kind of a newbie here.
Anyone here on the Forum have any experience using bentonite to seal a leaking pond? How much does it cost? Where do you buy it?
If the pond has water in it, you might want to look at SoilFlock vs. Bentonite.
Esshup, although it's a new pond, right now it has only about 1 foot of water in it. I understand soilflok needs water under pressure to have it work. Pond is about 1/8 acre with possible 7 foot depth.
I have talked with tj about the possibility of using soilfloc and it seems to be a possibility in the future. While most of my pond is composed of a flakey shale - clay mix, I did bottom out in a solid shale strata. I think that's is where the pond is leaking. I did put some clay on top of this rock layer but I don't think it has been effective, that's why I
was looking into the Bentonite.
I have seen a few hillside ponds around here like that, and they always leaked dry. Your only solution is probably a liner.
Bentonite needs to be mixed into the soil, then compacted. You can't do that now.
I'd fill it with water asap and use SoilFlock.
Thanks everyone for your input.
