Does anyone know where I can get blue tilapia for an aquaponics project in California.

cb100, do your research. In Cali, I believe you need an $800 aquaponics permit, and inspection by CF&G, only certain counties allow possession of Tilapia, but there are some suppliers in SoCal.

Yes that sounds like what California would do. They are more interested in making money from their population and special interests. We have to resort to chemical treatment of aquatic weeds indstead of diploid grass carp.

That should have been triploid sometimes I hate autocorrect.

FWIW, the Great Salton Sea has lots of Blue Tilapia in it...it's the species that allows it to have life still. Perhaps you could harvest some there...?

Contact Rocky French at Aqua Farming Technology, Inc. in Thermal (next to the Salton Sea) at (760)397-0609.

I don't know if he sells or has blue variety. Mozambique is the species here in CA.

There are only 2 - 3 tilapia farmers in California and Rocky's is the largest.
