Heading to South Africa for 2 weeks. London by Saturday morning; spend a day there, catch another flight to Johannesburg. About 5 days there, then to Capetown for 3 days. Then turn around and head back to TEXAS by the same routes. BTW, it's what passes for the winter there. Kinda like the usual Texas winter; 40's in the morning and 60's later in the day. Supposed to be a hunting trip but I'll let the Grandkids do the shooting. I'm not mad enough at anything there to spend about $6,000 to put it on my wall. Probably have to help pay for the predatory Grandkids to shoot stuff.

BTW, never done anything like this in my life. Other than Mexico, never been out of the US. Already out about $8,000 and it will get worse.

Scott, not taking any. I figure the place has the right gun for any job and the right bullet to match. The airplane rides are going to be less than fun. The jumbo jets are pretty well the proverbial sardine cans.

yes flying has become a potential stressful event (especially if you are claustrophobic).

I don't fly often, but when I do this what I take to get through the TSA/delays/lines/packed planes.

And it works beautifully!

"already out about $6k and gonna get worse". Way wrong DD, if that doubles, your grandkids will remember this adventure after they are older than you are now. That will be a looong time. Also consider this, after your gone and if they would inherit 6k each that wouldn't even buy each a decent used truck or even a good coon dog. 31 yrs ago I took two months off work, bought an old Ford van with a pop up roof. Loaded my 13 yr old son and 8 yr old daughter up and headed to Az and Co for a month each. They often speak of the fun we had. Last week my daughter and her 3 kids stoped by and I broke out the scrap book. Man did we all laugh and there were quite a few remarks about what punks mom and uncle Eric were. Of course I corrected the grandbrats and said ARE. Every eveniing I would take about an hr and record most of what happened in a journal. I also liked to find post cards of the areas and then take my pics of said places with the kids in them. Have a blessed time !!!

Have a great time. I had a chance to go with my father and brother a few years ago. I was in my forties and didn't know how many more chances with my dad we would get. It was a great time. We followed that up a couple years later we with a black bear hunt in eastern Canada. They are great times and should always be enjoyed.
Be safe and will enjoy the stories when you return.

I envy you DD1! Have a great time and take lots of pix

DD1 and his Nyala.

EDIT:I'm be remiss if I didn't admit I've seen that look on DD1's face before. It's either a visit from whiskey man, the "wonder what this is gonna cost me", or wondering what an intercontinental text from nowhere is gonna cost.

No idea what happened to the face on the pic. That's an ancient Nyala. Also shot a Gnu(Wildebeest) and Impala. Heading to Capetown in a couple of days. Having a blast!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm back and Dorothy in the Wizard of OZ said it best. There's no place like home.

We did the cage diving bit and it cured my ideas about free diving with a Great White Shark.

Pics will be in shortly and I'll post some. Speaking of pics, I had a PB shirt that I wore and got a pic of me at the bottom of Africa.

What a trip!

I envy you on the cage diving. That has to be an experience of a life time.

Glad you made it home safe and had a great time.
