I thought I would share this little story to put a smile on the faces of youngsters here on PondBoss.

Today, two gentlemen came in to pitch some new polymer formulations and services to my business partner and I. They were very well polished and knowledgeable (quite the opposite of the two of us). They go into how the properties have been tweaked and start doing some comparisons to other plastics. I speak up and say something like this reminds me of the first blended Nylon/Urethane resins of the 80's. Do you guys remember that?

Blank stares from both of them. I'm like what did I say? Jeff, I wasn't born in 1986 and the other gentlemen nodded yep 1988. That' when I knew I was old! grin

Was just in that same situation today. Young engineer sent me an e-mail with a question on a gear designed in 85 on an aircraft generator. I was really busy so just sent him a quick answer. He sent back how do you know? I replied, "Look at the name on the drawing of the design engineer!" 30 years and I still remember why I designed it that way!

About a dozen years ago I took my Grandson with me to the local truck stop for breakfast. He was about 4 or 5 years old. We were joined by a couple of pretty rough looking old ranchers.

Out of the blue Trevor looked at me and said "I wish you hadn't killed off all of the Indians". After a short silence one of those characters said that I hadn't killed off all of them. He and Davy Crockett chased a bunch of them up into Oklahoma and you can still find some of them up there. Of course they know better than to come south of the Red River while he's still alive.

He and his 16 and 17 year old buddies are around me a lot during hunting season. Like all teens, they spend a lot of time messing with their phones. One of them asked me how we communicated during the old days. I told them that we hollered real loud. One of them looked at the others and said that he could certainly believe that.

Time sure flies by - make it count.

Just look at the major changes over the last 20 years !

We are lucky to have the young kids around. My grand son[ when told it was time to take a nap} said he was not going to sleep as long as grandpaw was around to play with. Now it cannot get any better than that

That's great Mike - how can you argue with that logic?

Mike, enjoy him while you can.

Most times kids are so innocent and honest that they shame all of us in too big a hurry to enjoy the present. Time goes so fast...try ta slow it down.

I blinked and I fast forwarded from 10 to 80. The next goal, 90. How? What ever it takes. Don't get lazy. Be 10 again!

John, everybody says that I will never really grow up. I just keep getting older, fatter and and stuck in a body that no longer supports my curiosities and desires.

I admire Bush for doing his annual birthday parachuting jump but have never wanted to do it myself. I also don't want to jump off a platform with nothing more than a glorified rubber band holding on to me.

However, we went white water rafting in North Carolina last year. My wife didn't like the idea but went anyway. They were class 3. At the end I asked her what she thought of the experience. She said that she wanted to try some Class 4. We just might do that this year.

My goal is to do a dive in a shark cage but a trip to Africa($) just isn't in the cards.

Mike,
My two year old grandson didn't cry when Jodi and I left after a visit over the weekend. Jodi says it's good he doesn't cry anymore but it made me sad cause I like to know he misses us too
