that she passes quickly and painlessly from this life to the next. She's in renal failure and her bone marrow is no longer producing red blood cells. She wants no hospital care and just wants to die in peace in her home. It's amazing she's still alive but she has very deep faith and is tough as nails.

I couldn't have asked for a better mother-in-law as she never meddled and accepted me as a son-in-law with no hesitation. And of course I have my wife to thank her for.

Thank you

Your in our prayers Cecil
Cecil, you and yours are in my prayers.

When my mother, sister and brother were in that situation(cancer and/or ALS) I thought of Kenny Rogers song about the gambler. "The best that you can hope for is to die in your sleep." I hope she passes peacefully.

My prayers are with you and yours.
Stay strong and supportive to your wife. Without medical care things will be more painful. Is hospice an option?

Definitely supportive of the wife. People forget how stressful it can be on family members and care givers.

She has a nurse and nurse's aid come in and her children are keeping tabs on her.

I talked to my mother-in-law this morning on the phone. She was eating breakfast but said it may come back up in about 5 hours. I'm amazed she can be up and around with her test results. She does get out of breath, tires easily, her legs are swelled, and sleeps a lot. And she can't walk very far.

Choking up I told her what a wonderful mother-in-law she had been.

Sorry Cecil
My father refused to go anywhere and died in his easy chair. It was what he wanted, but it is very hard on the family, even with hospice, to deal with all the issues. At the Throne of Mercy on behalf of your family.

My mother-in-law has the dubious distinction of having worked as a coder, receptionist, and other jobs in the medical field. She was very good at it and had it all memorized. Unfortunately she's seen enough to have a distrust of many in the field. Granted there are a lot of honest, trustworthy, hardworking people in the field. But she witnessed some really bad characters over the years. Had one doctor that was angry with her for not double billing. She turned him in. And lots of other things like errors that cost people their lives.

Prayers and thoughts coming from Missouri. Trust that she is at peace with her decisions, and has fulfilled His plans for her.
Hoping peace to you, your wife, and your mother-in-law...
Thinking of you and family.
Positive and supportive thoughts to your family.

I took care of my Gramps the last 10 years of his life, and the last year and one half were the tough ones helping with diapers, picking him up, washing him, etc. Through all of this, I tell folks dig deep for all the patience you can muster and always remember that for all we know once "they're gone, they're gone". At least in the physical sense. So take every opportunity to sit with them, hold their hand, chat, etc.

If she is talkative and you've not done so, consider recording her. I sat and asked Gramps questions, and essentially got him saying everything his daughter (my ma) may want to hear after he passed - Merry Christmas, I love you, her name, what he did growing up, etc. Even when dementia set in, I still recorded him knowing I could edit the recordings later. From all the recordings I'm always surprising my ma here and there with her father's voice.

Cecil you said it! I too am in that very same boat at this point. We called in Hospice yesterday my MIL is starting to go into heart failure and she is basically shutting down at age 93. She has seen so much in this life! I think of all the things she has seen and its amazing. All the inventions since 1921 that she has been a part of. God bless your MIL and mine as well. I too could not have asked for a better one! May they go and be in a much better place! smile

RC
Again thank you for all the kind words and wisdom. She's still hanging in there!
