This may be a great opportunity for someone in the VA area to pick up a terrific buy on a nice pond boat. It is an auction site that sells mostly wrecked or theft recovered cars and boats. This one is a donated boat, but unlike all donated boats I’ve ever seen, this one is 10 years old and looks new. The paint isn’t even worn off the outboard skeg. See link below. Current bid is $525 and the auction ends 16 Dec. I wish it was closer to me….all the usual disclaimers

I bet that little boat flies with that Mercury engine!

Isn't a newer Merc engine like that at least worth $2000-$3000?

That thing has to fly! I paid $1500 for a 5 hp 4-stroke Merc this year.
Scott,

So what's the best way to pick up a good four stroke? Craig's list? Or shoukd I buy brand new? I'll be in the market for one for next year and could probably get by with even less than 5 horses. I have about 40 small lakes around me I can fish, which are my favorite kind of lakes. The fish in my ponds are too valuable to eat and it's like fishing in a barrel.

Cecil, I lucked out. When the 9.8 two stroke lower unit gave out I stopped at the local Marina. They just had a guy buy (he ordered it) that 5 hp, and put it on his boat the day before. He screwed up. He needed a long shaft, but this one is a short shaft. The Marina asked him to measure the boat for shaft length (top of transom to waterline) and he didn't. He put it on the pontoon, ran it and it cavitated.....

I got it for slightly more than 20% off retail, and since he never sent in the warranty card, I'm considered the first owner and have the full warranty on it too.

I looked at Craigslist and at E-bay. But, since I needed it asap, and it was local (2 miles away) I just bought it. I did pick up a lower unit for the 9.8 so that will be fixed for next season too.

This 5 hp has its own internal gas tank, but an aux tank can also be hooked up easily. The one thing you have to watch on the 4-stroke motors is that when transported they have to be laid down on one side only. Lay it down the wrong way and the oil in the crankcase can leak out......
I"ll keep that in mind. Mine will stay on the transom in the garage though. Made the mistake of leaving the boat out in the rain a few years back and the transom board rotted. Bartered with a relative of a relative that works for Startcraft and he replaced it with a brand new one and even did some aluminum welding repair of the keel that got damaged on a roller. Can't even tell it was repaired. It helps when a Starcraft is just down the road.

It stays in my garage when not in use no matter how much my dad complains. LOL

I had a custom cover build once but it didn't last.
If anyone is looking for a great small lake or big pond boat and if you live in the northwest louisiana area check water moccasin outdoors www.watermoccasin.net

Louisianafishing I've always liked the WaterMoccasin boat.
I even visited their facility once.
Nice folks.

Another Louisiana boat maker...ProGator is still making some
smaller version boats too. ProGator makes the "Lil’ Gator"
boat which looks almost exactly like the old original
Super Skeeter.

LiL Gator (like original Super Skeeter)

And ProGator makes a neat little peerogue pond boat.

Louisiana....I was planning on possibly a ProGator peerogue
or maybe a PondKing mini-pontoon boat.
PondKing Pontoon Boats

However I recently inherited a small little fiberglass mini
bass boat my brother owned. The boat maker no longer exists
but he had the little boat refurbed a couple of years back.
It's a really cool little boat. Almost like a mini-Skeeter Hawk.
I think it's 8 feet long, maybe 10. Stick steering.
I love it, plus it has special meaning to me now.

Here is a picture of me in the boat on the pond 1.5 year ago:

ps: this is a good source to browse pond size boats:

Mini Fishing Boats

That's a really cool boat I like it a lot, my friend has a water moccasin pirouge and we fish in it sometimes so I thought I would give one a try for myself except mine will be a pro gator

Thanks....

I'd love to see pics of your new boat when it arrives.

What color did you go with?
I'm not sure my dad is getting it for me it's suppose to be for Christmas but he told me last week I'll be sure to show you a picture of it when I get it
