Wow, that went fast. Had hoped for more meaningful contributions - but hey, the entertainment is free - so it goes.

Thanks to all the mentors for patiently guiding me along, and I am blessed with the solid friendships established over the years. Deeply grateful for my Pond Boss family!

Congrats man.....place wouldn't be the same without you.

My only question is, are you bragging or embarrassed????? laugh laugh laugh

Just pulling your leg man. Keep up the good work. I have read a lot of your old posts along with the current ones that have helped me. wink

I'm pushing 10,000, most of which were no doubt of little value. As you said TJ, the entertainment is free! HAHA

Such a fleeting moment of achievement....then's it's over.

I love free entertainment. Thanks TJ.
Posted By: teehjaeh57 Re: Post number 5,001 - 04/30/14 12:47 AM
Oh, it's not free for everyone. In fact, I've been meaning to discuss your ever growing invoice total - really needs some attention.
Posted By: catmandoo Re: Post number 5,001 - 04/30/14 01:03 AM
Holy Cow!

That is a lot of posts. I actually have no idea of how many I have made (I guess I'll check after this post.)

All I know is that you have been one of the great mentors and contributors -- in many ways, to the whole Pond Boss family.

Thanks for all you do to make this a great place, and especially for all you do to make the Pond Boss get-togethers so much fun.

Ken

Dang, I haven't even broken 3000 posts yet, "sometimes less is more". grin

This is the only forum in which I participate, and frankly, the only one where I've met guys with whom I wanted to form friendships. Thanks again to the mentors and good friends here.
Posted By: Bluegillerkiller Re: Post number 5,001 - 04/30/14 03:14 AM
Same here TJ..

I have joined other forums but they suck compared to this one.. I expect them to be great like this one then It's just a let down and I never use them again..

That's odd, this the first post of yours that I've read. Course you're kinda neighbors with that Condello guy.

Hope the little one quickly develops some exceptional athletic skills soon. Dad won't be helping with college buddy!

You Josh, not free for YOU! Jeesh you're making offhand jabs so difficult - wait - ah, well played. Still, you owe me a ton of money. Nothing will change that except a prompt payment.

"Nothing will change that except a prompt payment."

Or a punch in the gut and shot of Jim Beam, but who's counting, really?

Either of you need an address or do you remember how to get to the farm?
Posted By: esshup Re: Post number 5,001 - 04/30/14 03:49 PM
Josh, just show him the new noisemaker you have. Just don't tell him that the fuse burns 4 feet a second.

Unless there's a paper trail, you're in the clear about the debt. laugh
Posted By: teehjaeh57 Re: Post number 5,001 - 04/30/14 03:54 PM
I'll be there Friday - I'd love to lighten my list by two, it's getting so long. My SMB babies will need some new structure to avoid cannibalism anyhow - timing is perfect!
Posted By: teehjaeh57 Re: Post number 5,001 - 04/30/14 03:54 PM
Oh, and you just made the list, Scott.

TJ, a buddy has a license, and used to do the fireworks at the Chicago White Sox games. Last year he brought over an 8" mortar that he needed to dispose of. You would have liked it! My neighbor that was in his garage roughly 600 feet away said the the lifting charge rattled all the stuff on the garage walls. The width of it when it burst was over 300'. I think he said that it was about 1,000 feet in the air when it burst.

Electronic fuse, no more light and run. We were roughly 100 yds from it before he pressed the button.
Posted By: teehjaeh57 Re: Post number 5,001 - 04/30/14 05:06 PM
Bring one, please. This I have to see/hear/feel.
Posted By: esshup Re: Post number 5,001 - 04/30/14 11:38 PM
I'll see if I can. It has to be dug into the ground about 24"-36" and the fiberglass tube placed in the hole for support.
Posted By: teehjaeh57 Re: Post number 5,001 - 04/30/14 11:45 PM
Or....we can tape it to the side of a piece of driftwood and sail it across the pond and wait for it.
Posted By: esshup Re: Post number 5,001 - 05/01/14 12:44 AM
Oh heck no. I wouldn't want to be that close to it. The lift charge would throw the starburst charge all over the place, then that would probably go off. If the grass caught we'd never get it put out.
Posted By: esshup Re: Post number 5,001 - 05/01/14 12:45 AM
This thing was almost the size of a soccer ball with a soft ball under it for a lifting charge.

No worries, I'll be on the top of the hill taping you lighting the fuse and pushing it off from shore. I might be convinced to sacrifice a remote controlled boat for such and occasion, too. I'm sure the goggles and hoodie will keep you safe enough. This is gonna be a blast - pun intended.
Posted By: sprkplug Re: Post number 5,001 - 05/01/14 03:03 AM
Esshup's tough....he don't need no stinkin' hoodie or goggles. Just give him a punk and one brown jersey glove and he'll show you how it's done. wink

Classic imagery - you're right, hoodies are for Nancies!

e-fuse will work from over a mile away if line of sight (at least that's what I was told) wink.

I like my explosions sort of controlled, with just one escape route for the gasses.

TH, I figured why you couldn't hit anything with my big gun last year. The bullet couldn't take 290,000+ RPM and it was coming apart in a little grey copper and lead cloud about 50 yds from the muzzle.
Posted By: ewest Re: Post number 5,001 - 05/01/14 01:58 PM
The Star burst on the pond sounds like an old fashioned way of sampling your fish population -- but I am afraid fatal !!! The concussion would sure stun the heck out of most and probably everyone around.

Congrats on the post count - and I agree with you TJ on the forum.
Posted By: Bluegillerkiller Re: Post number 5,001 - 05/01/14 02:10 PM
You don't need a fuse if you put the mortar on top of a five gallon bucks of tanerite on a floating object in your pond.. just don't use the bullets esshup Is mentioning.. The 5 gallons alone would kill most fish in your pond then the mortar would simultaneously bbq the fish..

PS- I cannot believe tanerite is still legally available over the counter of most outdoor type stores.. someone has to screw this up for everyone here soon..
Posted By: esshup Re: Post number 5,001 - 05/01/14 03:17 PM
BGK, once I saw that, I figured out a solution. I'm using a 180g Berger VLD that has a MV (at 780' elevation)of 3350 fps and it's holding together. The 175g Sierra MatchKing at 3490 fps wouldn't after the barrel had slightly over 200 rounds through it.

Eric, that would be my concern too, besides the grass fire.
Posted By: outdoorlivin247 Re: Post number 5,001 - 05/01/14 10:18 PM
When and where is this happening? I just might know where some 3 to 8 inch pots are...
Posted By: Bluegillerkiller Re: Post number 5,001 - 05/01/14 10:25 PM
I don't know jack about distance shooting.. I can hit pretty much anything with my guns out to say 500 yrd but most of that is sketchy at best.. Now some of the guys I work with are doing some amazing shooting 3-4 second hang times I don't even know the distances there not hitting dimes either but they can hit a standard silhouette target..
Posted By: esshup Re: Post number 5,001 - 05/01/14 11:58 PM
BGK, the hang times all depend on the muzzle velocity and bc of the bullet. For instance a .308 shooting a 168g bullet needs 1.7 seconds to go 1,000 yds, my 7mm shooting a 175g bullet travels the same distance in 1.07 seconds. A 45-70? You're looking close to a 3 second time of flight.
Posted By: Bluegillerkiller Re: Post number 5,001 - 05/02/14 12:15 AM
I'm not sure what their shooting I know the rifles are custom built not sure about the round..I'll see if I can get some specs, unfortunately these guys know so much about guns I feel like a school girl around them when it comes to firearm knowledge
Posted By: esshup Re: Post number 5,001 - 05/02/14 01:44 AM
Compared to some of the guys I know, I know nothing about them!

Yeah, that's why I missed every target! Thankfully I'd been drinking with Banks, Sunil and Susie Cruz or I'd have considered being embarrassed.
Posted By: Sunil Re: Post number 5,001 - 05/02/14 12:18 PM
Don't blame me, Compadre!

It was all Sue Cruz's fault, and her damn affection for Lionel Ritchie.
Posted By: ewest Re: Post number 5,001 - 05/02/14 01:21 PM
Don't blame Sue - she did not force anyone to drink. grin
Posted By: teehjaeh57 Re: Post number 5,001 - 05/02/14 03:32 PM
Now now, I'm not BLAMING anyone, simply stating I imbibed pondside prior to handing the firearms with some of my dearest PB family. Besides, that's the proper gun safety protocol - drink first, fire later, ask no questions, give no quarter, right?

When that tannerite went off my neighbors told me their windows rattled and wondered if I'd finally met my demise. Funny - didn't seem that loud up close - might have been the beermuffs?
