The gathering at my place will be on Saturday, September 28, 2013 from 11:30-6:00. I will arrange to have some food to be brought in. We'll meet on my dock and have a good time. Please let me know by Saturday, September 21 if you'll be there.
I will arrange to have some food to be brought in.
MA redears?
Bruce, let me know if I can help with anything, be it picking something up, arranging anything, whatever. I can be early too and get the plank ready for any plant-talkers.
Of course you won't be judged by your lack of teeth. We'll prefer to belittle you on much more personal issues.
Who are you on FB?
John Wann Put in for vacation that weekend. Now pending approval. If I can make it who could bring me a pond Lyfe 1 system for cut rate price to save on shipping?
Bruce, what is the closest hotel to your house? Something nice with a Applebee's or nice steakhouse bar in walking distance. Maybe we can get a group rate for attendees kind of like a wedding. Thanks
I was delirious from 120 degree heat with humidly for 12 hours yesterday at work. Combine that with coming home and discovering your pond is infested with snails and you get a little cranky. Sorry Bruce and everybody else that read my ramblings.
From the Pond-a-Palooza thread, here it is, cut and pasted for your convenience.

Downtown Lincoln is closer to airport, and still only a 10-15 minute drive to Bruce. The Cornhusker and Embassy Suites are both solid bets where I used to put up my clients/friends visiting town.
I have the green light for that weekend off. If I come what can I expect besides being pushed in the water? My wife and 17 month old daughter Molly would attend too. We will go to Omaha zoo the day before or after. Still undecided. I think I will still have enough vacation for Pond Con XI. Definitely interested in the notorious Condello cage so future stocking can be run by the forum. Need info on bubbles too. I'm thinking Pond Lyfe 1 is what would suit my quater acre pond.

It will be great to see you. There will be a couple of experts who know a thing or two about bubbles in attendance. You'll wish you had more time at the zoo. I think it's just amazing.
Yep! It's a for sure trip. Now time to pick a hotel. I wonder what hotel Bruce, TJ, or Omaha (Josh I believe) would stay in for a night? I perused the list above and could find one with bar and restaurant in list close to Bruce. I'm thinking Holliday Inn. It's has all of this close for $108 per night.

If anyone would like to save a few bucks. I would offer my cabin to anyone attending, at no cost. It is about 10 miles from Bruce's house. We rent it out on a commercial hunting business we operate. It has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, full kitchen as well as satellite TV. It will sleep 6 comfortably. You won't be disappointed. If several people want to stay there that is fine if you can all get along. I also have a dock there in case someone needs thrown in. PM me if you like Brent

That's a very generous offer Brent.
There should be some avid hunters showing up, and I think they would learn really quick on how to get along.
I hope the right people take you up on your offer. Sounds really cool!
There was two choices when I booked. $109 a night. No refund. $129 a night you can cancel. I booked straight through their website and opted for the no refund.
Sure would of been sweet if Fullpond would of offered this a day earlier. I'm now seeing what Bob and others talk about when they say Pond Boss is a family. Fullpond could of charged , but he said free. The type of stuff family would offer. Pond Boss Rocks! We are a family.
11:00--Buncha pond freaks talking about fish and ponds (not vegetation) 12:00--Buncha pond freaks listening to Bob Lusk wing it. 1:00-- Food with plenty of delicious veggies. 2:00--Buncha pond freaks talking about aeration. 3:00--Buncha pond freaks not talking about algae. 4:00--Josh goes in the water. 5:00--Tony goes in the water. 6:00--Dismissal to restaurant for wine and other beverages.
I can asist you with the snag fishing demo. I have all the equipment. We snag these things.
If Sunil Needs reenforcment I have this freedom keeper. http://youtu.be/NOuMLa0nvT4 I still think we should drop one of these in and see what's happening below surface of Bruce's pond. http://youtu.be/BpPuOMHi5JA LoL! I'm just glad I can leave my swim ware at home. I'm excited!
The oddest spoonbill I ever caught was a 25 pounder whose bill had long ago been broken off. Like most things here, it's illegal to harvest them except for a short period on the Illinois River.
Not long now. Can't wait to put names with faces. Who is coming for sure? Would like to know which Pond Stars I will be meeting. Bob, Bruce,Omaha, and Spark I wanna shake hands with wait and Herman Bros for sure. Do we have a lineup?
I think FireIsHot is coming?? Hope he can make it. Take my name off the stars list and substitute Al's in it's place....I'm happy being that wide-eyed guy in the background who can't believe he's rubbing shoulders with the celebrities.

I'll be back there too. I've never met anyone except Rainman. Should be interesting. I'll be the guy that everything he tries to do with his pond seems to go the opposite direction. Case in point. Dreams his whole life of having his very own put and take pond Builds his pond on top of food plot that has these bucks frequenting daily.
Before knowing of leak plants $400 of grass seed and fully mulches with straw. Next stocks with $150 worth of fingerlings in this quarter acre pond. Finds out pond is leaking. http://youtu.be/SIr5d-pmotk Discovers PondBoss searching how to fix leak. Reads about bentonite possibilities Buys $550 pallet of bentonite Fixes leak for a month Pond starts leaking again Calls contractor won't back his work Orders $1000 worth of clay to line pond Drains pond and has to cut dam for drainage.
Pays another $1200 and has pond dug deeper while it's empty http://youtu.be/j4wsuvzWM-s Worst drought in 50 years hits Missouri Finally just fills halfway with well Stocks 100 CC and 100 HBG per fish trucks guys instructions
Finds out that's way too many CC after not asking numbers here. Stocks 25 YP and 25 HSB from Rex (prob best decision of all made) HBG reproduce like rabbits in Australia Stocks SMB and starts daily trappings of fry Notices pond has been infested with snails Like an idiot goes back to fish truck for some RES
Turns out everybody says these are bluegill 5 foots herons start attacking pond Nearly two years later here we are today The bad luck Brian of Pond Boss
I plan on being there late in the afternoon. I have already committed to fish the NBAA Division 54 championship at Summit Lake on Saturday. It will likely be a 2-hour drive to get to Bruce's place once the weigh in is over. Hopefully my partner and I can win our fourth tournament this year.
As you know its a true story! Lol! I guess thats what makes it so hilarious. Everybody that's followed me on here can attest. Long bumpy road, but worth it. If one person on here learns from my mistakes I guess it was all worth it. Not! I do hope some people learn from them though. Take it slow and better think things out.
Good recap Jw - and believe me you are not alone - I've got several stories that are as bad or worse than that. Would be a good article, send an email to Bob with your outline - I think he'd like it. The thesis is to research carefully and take it slow...every step must be measured or you'll have to live with permanent consequences. Guess it's the Pond Boss version of "sorority sisters late night drunk on Cabo Spring Break get tramp stamp tattoos".
We have all had interesting journeys ! All killed lots of fish and made whopper mistakes. I bet you can't get anyone on the experts' list to agree they are an expert in front of the others. We all have lots to learn and some to share. That is what the journey is all about.
Right on ewest. I can't wait till the sit back and relax part of it if there is such a thing. It's been a stressful journey so far. I think sometimes I take it a little too serious trying to make a perfect pond. Maybe what I have is my perfect pond. I should prob sit back and enjoy it more often. Not sure there is such a thing as a perfect pond?
After a whole lot of years of messing with ponds, I still consider myself the best fish killer around. Some of my experiments have been disasters. Of course, I don't label them experiments until after the fact.
Agree with all said here...we can never perfect nature - always dealing with wild cards which will reveal entirely new sets of challenges per Sunil. Carefully shepherding the course of the fishery development through thoughtful strategies will help eliminate some of the severe and costly errors, though - and that's one invaluable characteristic of the PB forum IMO.
Before I consider launching a pond project, change in strategy, or shifting my goals, I typically research the forum at least a couple weeks reading the archives, then actively post on it a few times, then finally call or email Bill, Cecil, Eric, Bruce, Bob, Otto et al before I finally pull the trigger. I'm grateful without exception I've received nothing short of enthusiastic and expert direction. My completion dates might suffer, but I end up saving myself tons of $ and heartache down the road because I took the time and utilized all resources available here.
But especially those used to 64 degrees watching a Floridian "freeze".
Got to make sure you keep your Floridian full of antifreeze when travelling in northern climes. This would seem be a task that could be delegated to Sunil.
Sue all these Northerners are just jealous of you Floridians. I'll be headin to Fl about the time you're headin to nasty cold Neb. If ya wanna talk weeds, make sure it's the Colorado strand.Good Luck
Sunil, my threshold is WAY above 48 degrees!!! Bob-O, you are a smart man, I don't know why I torture myself by traveling to northern states when it is cold.... Of course, it was looking nice and warmish in Lincoln until today's forecast!!
According to the Weather Channel 10 day outlook for Lincoln, NE. Saturday is the only crappy day with rain and a 21F temp drop for highs. Boy, someone sure jinxed this gig!
Pretty sure Bruce's cabin has heat, and the roof may be in good repair.
My family is going to Omaha Zoo Thursday and Friday. We will be sweating there and shivering at Bruce's. It's now saying 68 for a high if that helps. It could all change by Saturday. This will prob the one time the long term forecast is right. I can handle chilly weather, My wife and daughter not so much. I did warn you guys I'm the Bad Luck Brian of Pond Boss. Ha!
BTW, I caught wind that you sent a party favor package in lieu of attending???
This is how rumors get started. I sent a small package clearly labeled "To Beautiful Korean Dental Assistant" which Bruce somehow comandeered for his own use. I didn't dare complain because he threatened to tell my wife.

Yolkie generously supplied some "beverages" for the event. I may, or may not have already "sampled" said beverages to confirm it was fit for consumption.
Am I correct that Condello is coming dressed as a Pez dispenser? I'll be honest--he's been the most helpful person I've ever encountered on this forum. Always willing to go the extra mile.

Careful, Barnes1. You're veering away from mockery and approaching dangerously close to sarcasm. We all know that Bruce frequently reaches out-but only toward a camera, and only at arms length.
Am I correct that Condello is coming dressed as Pez dispenser?
You are correct Barnes1. Bruce has been very clear about this. We are all looking forward to it very much. In fact, I believe that's solely why many are making the long trip. I can't imagine the ramifications if for some reason this didn't take place.
Whammm ! Yolk hits a home run. Barnes where have you been !
Same place as always. Deploying my parachute as I plummet downward through an abandoned well shaft. It's my only true love now that I've had to give up my dreams of owning a pond with great smallmouth fishing.
Hey Barnes, I take it you have given up well parachuting? I looked back at your posts, clicked on the well-parachuting website and.....nothing.I'm glad I hadn't bought a parachute yet. Maybe your new hobby is just hanging out under Bruce's dock, waiting for a stray piece of Pez candy that accidentally fell out of his mouth to fall through the cracks?

Who mentioned anything about being "dressed as"...?
Bags packed. Now 9 hour drive to Omaha. Should be interesting with 17 month old baby. First road trip since having baby. Literally can't sleep. I'll prob get tired in few hours when we depart. I did get in 4 hours.

Just goy my wife a brand new 2014 Ford Escape Titanium fully loaded a couple weeks ago. I finally get to drive it! Gonna need to keep my hands off all that computer stuff in center dash. I could see that more dangerous than driving and texting.

I can relate. When I was a kid I got my first CD player installed in my car. I was tinkering with it after pulling onto my gravel road. Finally looked up to see I was probably inches from sliding off a very steep embankment. Very rarely do my eyes leave the road after that. And if they do, it is very brief. Be safe John and we'll see you soon.
Sorry for the late notice but as my plans changed and I will not be going out of town over the weekend, if there's any attendees that need accommodations my camper will be available at my place (35' motorhome which sleeps 6, 4 adults, 2 kids) which according to mapquest is about 13 miles from Bruce's.
Again, sorry for the late notice but if I can help from tonight on, please let me know.
Night: Mostly cloudy. A slight chance of thunderstorms in the evening...Then thunderstorms after midnight. Lows in the upper 50s. South winds 10 to 15 mph with gusts to around 25 mph shifting to the west 5 to 10 mph after midnight. Chance of thunderstorms 90 percent.
SATURDAY Sep 28
Day: Cooler. Partly sunny with a 20 percent chance of rain showers in the morning...Then sunny in the afternoon. Highs in the lower 70s. Northwest winds 5 to 15 mph.

Straight as an arrow roads lined with corn. Exciting drive! Made it to Omaha and hit the bass pro. Zoo first thing tomorrow. Then more corn driving to Bruce's town tomorrow evening. All hills and trees in my neck of the woods. Definitely a change up. Fun!

You guys please post pics and give the rest of us a report on activities. Include who goes in the water to rescue Sue and how many refuse to help save TJ from the large predators.
But truly, the video is a different bass that I caught.
This picture above happened sometime back when there was a freak weather incident. The temp dropped to about 40 F. We hadn't had anything to eat in days. We were starving, and I had about 10' of .9lb. test line, and a rusty hook. If we didn't catch a fish, we wouldn't eat.
Lol! Nothing but trees in my neck of woods. I live in the rolling hills of the MARK Twain National Forest. Only thing you see is the next hill. Spark I bet that was some drive. You probably had corn the whole way. Easy to get tunnel vision. Glad you made it.
Had a BLAST at TJ's today, and finished up the day (literally) at the campfire at Bruces place. Someone has to ask Fireishot about his boat ride at Bruces. Wind today was 15-25 mph and at one time the temp hit 86 degrees. I don't know what's worse, the windburn or the sunburn! 6:45 a.m. feeding at Bruces dock in the morning. Got to hit the bed!
There WERE other pictures taken, they'll be posted sooner or later.
Anybody know where Mike Otto is staying overnight?
If you know the place, or Mike's phone number, let me know.
I need to get him here.
Also, my Gator is sitting on the highway, non-functional. Shouldn't be a big deal to push it back to my garage, but I might need somebody who can give it a shove with me.
1. Blown up John Deere Gator 2. Fire still burning 3. Random glass and aluminum fragments scattered about 4. .3 inches rain, which was absolutely perfect! The grounds are in great shape!! 5. Hungry bass under the dock right now.
What's up with theses forecasters? Now rain chances starting around 14:00. Never mind I'm still asleep. That was the forecast for home. Inch of rain today. Yea! Beautiful day coming up here.
Next time I need to get in on the planning part. Besides the blown up Gator that sounds like my kind of planning. I also brought a big glass pickle jar of this stuff I found in pond. After rinsing off in your pond. I'll see if anybody can identify it.
That bluegill you caught was phenomenal to spark. 1 pound class easy. I did see the one that got away too while I was walking back up. I wish you could of landed that one.
It is so good to see so many friends in the photos. Oh, how wish I could have been there.
We are one fortunate bunch of humans. To me, this is one of the great parts of Pond Boss.
Safe travels to all.
On another note -- I'll be in Edmond, OK from Oct 12 to October 17. Right now, I don't have anything on the schedule for Monday, Oct 14, or Wednesday, October 16.
Anybody in Southern OK or NE TX want to go fishing?
Unrelated note..... jwann how old is the kid? Have a 15 month old myself. Its crazy how you notice weird stuff once a parent of little girl. She has the same shoes as yours. Beautiful child.....very nice work
They are precious. She yelled no at Bruce's big fish, but loved the river gravel. Guess it reminded her of home. I have 3 river systems within 12 miles of house. One trout creek and SMB creek over the next hill. This pond stuff is new to me. I have always took whatever Mother Nature gave me. That was Step 1. Catch shiners and sunfish and put in bait bucket. Step 2. Put them on trot line. Step 3. Eat CC. This is why I'm so intrigued with bluegill now.
Bob Lusk is the real deal. Always has been. People gravitate toward him because he's generous, thoughtful and the very top expert in a very complicated field. I think that's why we've all become such a strong family. He's the patriarch.
Hannibal MO. Booking east with extreme prejudice. I've got ANOTHER tank of fuel, sweet tea in the cup holder, Pink Floyd cranking through the Infinity, and a crapped out cruise control.
Got home at 7:00 pm....there's so much I want to convey, I just don't know where to start. Driving back from NE I tried to sort it all out, but everything I came up with fell way short of expressing what I want to say. Or more importantly, what I need to say. This weekend was beneficial to me on so many other levels, many of which had nothing to do with fish, or ponds. THANK YOU EVERYONE is completely inadequate, but it will have to do until I can collect my thoughts.
Stopped at TJ's this morning to get the rest of the stuff and re-pack the car. FWIW, the last ka-BOOM left a completely denuded blast diameter of 10'-11', and the center of it was cratered out. A few pieces of the cardboard box that the 2 punkins were sitting on, and that's about it. I don't know if the alfalfa will come back in that spot.
Left TJ's and stopped at Omaha's place to look at his pond progress, and we talked about what he needs to discuss with the well driller. I filled up the car before I got to his place. 15.001 gallons.
Left his place at around 2:45 p.m., arrived here at 10:30 p.m.
It was great seeing old faces again, and even better putting faces to the new names!
To continue my little ramble on Pond Boss generosity, how about having THE esshup visit my pond? I imagine those outside the family pay a handsome penny for this privilege, but Scott wouldn't even accept a drink of water from me today. So cool. Pond Boss happens and works because of guys like Scott. My pond's eventual success will have many names attached to it.
Woman likes this band called Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, and they were playing at a small venue in Pittsburgh.
I was not for it, but she booked tickets, so we went from the airport, to dinner, and then the show. Got home at midnight.
It was an interesting way to cap off the weekend, and what a weekend it was!!!!
Now, I have to call 'foul' on Omaha. If you were holding off on partying on Saturday just 'cause Scott was coming to your pond on Sunday, that is BS!!!!! You just said some guy was coming to your pond...you never said it was esshup!

He was one of two guys I visited with at my pond that day. I wasn't sure when the other guy could make it. Was hoping it was earlier, but ended up being after 3pm. I didn't get off my place till late evening.

I would be embarrassed to admit that on a public forum . Silly little diesel. I'll have you know that the hemi Ram gingerly sipped its way through a paltry 94 gallons of gasoline over the course of this trip.
I do feel kinda' bad about the swath of forest that was felled to provide the receipts, though.
The trip was better than can be described here. I got to meet some great new people, see some old friends again, and the weather couldn't have been more perfect. It's about a 10 hour drive from DFW to Lincoln, but 9.5 of that was super slab so it seemed like less. Mike Otto and I carpooled home, and it definitely made the ride more enjoyable. We solved a lot of the world's problems, so everybody can relax now.
Bruce graciously opened his home and pond to all of us, and the lack of a defined agenda or schedule worked out great. After a talk from Bob Saturday afternoon, we all discussed our goals and how we planned to get there. Interestingly enough, sprkplug (Tony) was the only person that had already hit a home run. He had defined goals, a method of getting there, and a timetable. Despite what we all try to do, that's very rare thing. Great job buddy!
Friday for me was mainly spent at TJ's with esshup and TJ. I was very impressed with his ponds, fish, and future plans. Never have I fished any private pond where there was the possibility of catching so many different kinds of fish. In 3 or 4 hours 7 different species, all fat and happy, were caught and released. It was a great afternoon. The only burp was when TJ's neighbors started texting him asking what caused their windows to implode. At that point, it was time to leave and leave quickly.
Friday evening was spent at Bruce's, and I won't discuss that because one Pennsylvania attendee is trying to write revisionist history.
Saturday we all met at Bruce's place, and it was a wonderful day. Lots of fish were caught, and the indoor gathering made a perfect match. I will say this about Bruce's LMB. Never have I seen so many XXL LMB caught and released. Very impressive results.
Finally, we laugh sometimes about funny quotes like "here, take this I swear it's unloaded" or "I think I can jump that ditch with 5 more MPH". You can add "come on aboard the boat, it'll hold one more person no problem" to that list.
Upper end of Bruce's pond. Beautiful view.
TJ with one of his large HBG's
esshup (Scott) with one of TJ's SMB
Scott with a HSB at TJ's. IIRC just a shade under 10 pounds.
Surprised no one has commented on Sunil's new pet owl, Owlcoholic, pictured above. To my recollection that thing never left his shoulder except to harrass some neighboring whistle pigs...aptly named, and obviously was in great company.
Yes, the vast majority of my BG catches came while pounding the bottom with the jig. And from the perspective of catching a RES like Alex did, that makes sense to me. But I was using a 1/80 oz jighead, while he had a slower sinking tie....I was wondering if the fly had made it to the bottom, or if the fish hit it while sinking, or while he was stripping line on the retrieve.
Yolk, I had a 1" plastic on. Single micro tail, red (bloodworm), and I also tipped it with a waxworm to seal the deal.
I had other techniques I intended to try, SHOULD'VE tried, but the bloodworm was producing and I stayed with it once I hit on it. I did try fishing a plain jig with the waxies, as well as the bloodworm undressed, and I caught a few both ways, but the combo was the ticket.
Dead on Yolk..... Sounds like you and I could possibly share a 10' jonboat without the politics of lure/bait selection leading to one or the other of us getting wet.
Provided of course, that no GSF derivatives were present.
We better go for a 12 footer, Sparkie, or I may have what I infer to be FireIsHot moment. No problem with the GSF derivatives as long as there's room for my Ruger Bearcat in the boat.
I'm sorry John, but it was a dark, I had smoke in my eyes, and I was totally fixated on TJ's consummate skill at reinvigorating a dwindling bonfire.
I recall hearing laughter, a muffled splash, then several voices commencing simultaneously, all in a semi-operatic pitch that implied a sense of urgency. That's all I've got.

I wasn't there, Sparkie, so I can't be sure, but it does look to me like TJ is missing his eyebrows in one of the "After" pictures...don't tell me his "consumate skill" involves gasoline rather than diesel?

Not at all Yolk, as TJ is a purist.....no liquid accelerants need apply. As the fire began to shrink, he expertly diagnosed the problem, fought his way through a maze of beverage containers, coolers, lawn chairs, and gawking onlookers, (of which I was one), retrieved a chunk of cottonwood the approx. size of a 55 gallon drum from the edge of an abyss, in the dark, and retracing his steps was able to lob said cottonwood ONE HANDED, onto the fire in the exact spot needed to bolster the embers.
It was impressive, and I was apparently not alone in thinking that way as others commented on the amazing feat also.
I knew TJ was a man of many talents, but this surpassed them all.

TJ Hudson. Firebender extraordinaire.
This is a true and accurate account of what occurred. We were in the presence of Hercules himself. I was incredibly impressed, but mostly frightened.
Very aptly put, Sparkie, but I fear that those of us unlucky enough not to attend aren't getting the whole story here. Although it does not strain the bounds of credulity to imagine "semioperatic" sounds eminating from a horizontal, fetally positioned Sunil during such an operation, I can't see Al being similarly moved, especially given his background in the anticombustion field. However, if you chose to insist that "What happens in Nebraska, stays in Nebraska", then so be it.
Don't feel bad Yolk. I made a six and half hour drive to be there and have no idea what happened. I left way too early:( Could somebody pm a brother with some info?
FireIsHot/Al Missouri Boat Ride Deliverance Extreme Reticence to Ride on a Boat Unadmitted Fear of Water (?????, I know, I know) Pontoon Boat with some fixed chairs and some loose lawn chairs Pontoon Boat Weight Limits Zumba as it may apply to individual weights.....
Oh, and maybe potential electrical shock with fear of dropping one's cell phone into the water.
The picture is a little fuzzy, but here's what it was caught on:
George, the firesuit is on. I know I'm going to catch some flack for the following information.
Equipment used: #10 Eagle Claw Salmon Egg hook Original Stubby Steves pellet. (it was slowly sinking with that hook) Rod: G-Loomis SR720/6' Ultra Light Mod-Fast Action 1/32-1/8 oz, 1-4 lb test Reel: Shimano Sidestab 1000 RE (Rear Drag) Line: 2# Berkley Vanish
If I had to guess, I'd say water temps were in the very low 70's.
TJ wanted us to fish for BG to take out of the pond. I'll bet that fish took 100 yds of line before it finally stopped and turned. If there was any cover in the pond for the line to get hung up on, it would have been game over in a heartbeat.

I'll have to fill in the details later.
Al could always come clean
I'm thinking there was some swimming action. So how was the water temps at the thermocline?
Affirmative, 2# Vanish. The reel has an excellent drag system, and there wasn't anything in the pond (at least where the fish swam) to get hung up on. Luckily, the fish stayed away from any underwater vegetation that was growing around the pond edge. The only fish that I've had make longer runs were when I was fishing in saltwater off the coast of California/Mexico.
