This shouldn't be this hard. Can anybody tell me the outside dimensions of an ATV/UTV V-bar tire that is marked 25x11-12. I just want a set of chains for these tires. Twice I thought I had the right ones -- WRONG!

I've got a third set of Peerless chains in the truck, and I'm afraid to take them out of the box. These are marked 25x8-12, which I'm told will fit.

I don't think I have anything in the shop utilizing that size right now, but I'll check in the morning and let you know. Looks like your tire is 11" wide, and your chains are 8" wide, so I would imagine if you get em' on, they'll be snug........

Ken, it's dark out there now, but tomorrow I'll check the ATV and see what size the tires are. If they are that size, I'll measure them.

What dimensions do you need?

I'm about to go out and try these latest chains. I've had this problem before with tractor chains. I can't find any charts anywhere that show the length and width of the chains. The tires are 25x11-12. They have lots of sizes of Peerless chains at TSC, just none that show my exact size tires - but all around that size. If I just knew how long and how wide the chains were, I could easily determine if the would fit.

Well I don't have that size here right now, but my chain supplier lists two different part numbers....one for the 11" wide tire, and another for the 8" wide tire...so that leads me to believe that the set you have won't fit.

And while I don't see your exact tire size listed, I do see where the same part# chains are supposed to fit 25x1000-12 through 25x1350-12....your tire is in the middle of that range, so a set of chains that fit those tires should be what you want...the various manufacturers group their chains together differently sometimes, AND tire chains may well require adaptation....adding or removing links, to get a truly custom fit.

Try for a set that fits a 25x1350-12 tire...you should be able to make them work without too much trouble.

I found that I can make them work, it just means I have to lengthen them a little bit. They don't come quite as far down the sidewall as I'd like, but they are down at least 2 inches on each side. I believe I've got an old set of chains in the barn from a lawn tractor I had years ago, if I didn't give them away. Assuming I have them, I'll cut off what I need, otherwise I'll just buy some chain and add it to them.

I just got a plate welded up for a winch to fit on my front 2-inch receiver hitch. The #8 wires for the control to the winch are about 8 inches too short!

I guess I'm just being shorted everywhere I look!

Cinch em' up tight....let most of the air out of the tires, cinch the chains then inflate to proper psi. Not much sidewall contact there, better keep an eye on them for awhile.

On my Deere Garden Tractor, I have chains for when I'm using the snowblower. (snowthrower?)

Anyway, they are a PITA to put on, and they'll want to loosen up over the course of the winter. I found that if I put 3 or 4 small elastic straps w/hooks on the outside of the chains, holding them tight over the sidewalls/center of the rim, they stay on the tires better. Letting out some of the air makes putting them on easier too like Tony said.

Didn't use it last year at all, and I haven't put it on the tractor yet this year.

Temps stayed in the upper 40's/low 50's all night long, and it's supposed to get close to 60 today. The ice on the small ornamental ponds at the house is gone this a.m. and while I don't think the ice on the pond will disappear, it sure looks weak and thin.

I always put bungee cords on my tractor chains, and I did that when I plowed snow with my old garden tractor too. It really helps keep them centered.

Years ago and old Norwegian showed me how to easily put chains on equipment like tractors, etc. Run a piece of rope or wire through the wheel and partially snug up the wire against the ends of the chain. Drive forward until the connected part of the chain is coming up off the ground, and the other end of the chain is now draped over the top of the tire. Connect it up as tight as you can. Do the same thing with the other side. Then take if for a short ride, and re-snug them.

I have summer wheels and tires for the spring, summer and fall. I have the winter wheels and tires with chains for winter.

I put chains on my fork truck, and plowed snow for a couple years. It looked funny, but worked great!

Man, that must have been one heck of a snow storm!

Back then, we use to get some heavy lake effect snow. I underestimated the power this thing really had, being diesel, and only built a 6ft plow. Still have the plow and use it for pushing brush with my tractor.

Once again, I am wondering why anybody would live in an area that necessitates snow chains, snow blowers, snow shovels, etc. Then, about the time July and August hits, I figure it out.

It is a damp wind-driven cold

Two days ago, the local weather man said that North Texas has more snow on the ground than the entire lower peninsula of Michigan. It may snow a bit today, but don't expect any accumulation. Were about 40" below normal snowfall.

Four inches of snow on Christmas - cold rainy drizzle - sleet - hail and and then "thunder snow" yesterday the goofy weatherman called it!
Take this stuff back to where it belongs!
I'll take the heat any time...

JKB we had graupel here 2 mornings in a row. I had never heard the term, and when my Mom said she had "graupel this morning", I thought she was talking about something for breakfast. Dumb me.

Weird having both thunder and snow at the same time.

I like having a distinct beginning and end to the seasons.... Fall and winter typically means a slower pace for me, and the change in weather patterns (during a normal year anyway!) just signals that it's time to change gears.

And, I find that the different seasons all have challenges and opportunities that are not available during other parts of the year. I guess I just like the variety!

Thundersnow is a rarity. We got to experience it not long ago and I thought it was very cool.
