Now that Texas A&M chickened out of not having to lose to "The University" and joined the SEC, may I join the "Gig Em" crowd? grin
Quite a remarkable young man - Texas proud!

I've had to put up with all my Aggie family members for all these years and now I can cheer for them!

Me too George since former SMU head coach Tom Rossley is the one that recruited Johnny Football to Texas A&M, and surprisingly Johnny even mentioned Coach Rossley from the podium last night. The kid will be fun to watch the next few years. Gig 'em!

"Join the SEC," they said. "Your recruiting will get better," they said. "You'll go to more bowl games," they said.

No one told us about the part where we'd get beat by Vandy frown

It's always nice to see another Texas school
with a better coach than the Longhorns,
a better team than the Longhorns,
a better quarterback than the Longhorns,
in a better conference than the Longhorns!
In a better bowl than the Longhorns!

UH-OH .....now 'ya gone from preachin' and gone to meddlin'.... laugh

I bet Mack Brown has nightmares about losing "The Kerrville Kid", all because he wasn't offered a measly scholarship.
A VERY expensive and untimely mistake - for which every Aggie is eternally grateful.
Thanks Mack!

I reckon the difference between preachin' and meddlin' this year only adds up to respect in the SEC and a Heisman trophy.
No big deal.
I have to laugh just a little bit. I've got several buddies in Alabama (Ray Scott's guys and some others) who were ribbing me when the Aggies made the move to the SEC. They said stuff like, "Now that y'all are in a real conference, please don't be upset that you get whipped like a stepchild." Or, "Welcome to the SEC, but don't be too disappointed with what happens."
Then, I look at tu. Arrogant. That's it. ARROGANT. Sure, you have your own network. Yep, you want every fair advantage. Yep, tu beat our Aggies last year. Got it.
I honestly wasn't too thrilled to walk away from what seemed to matter...the rivalry with tu, the Big 12 adventure every year. But, I loved the challenge to go to a conference that seems to produce quality sports year in and year out. Then, along comes Kevin Sumlin and Johnny Football and the surroundings. HOW MUCH FUN HAS THIS BEEN?
This move has been a definite recruiting advantage and time will tell what the impact will be on all the Texas schools. Personally, I love the ride and have giggled like a middle-school girl watching this team take bigger teams apart. They've competed in every game and even though they ran out of time against Florida and LSU, it's been an enjoyable ride. One more trip, to the Cotton Bowl against Zero-U and then we get to wait.
I'll never forget going to the game in College Station in 2003 when McNeal overrode the Number 1 Sooners and the fightin' Texas Aggies defeated that Number 1 ranked team in the nation. I'll also never forget going to Norman the next year and getting our proverbial tails handed to us 77-0. As we made our way into the stadium, I with my Texas Aggie maroon jacket on...pass a tailgate where a Crimson and Cream fan grabs me and says, "Today, McNeal will pay for last years sins!" That guy, with barbecue sauce on his face and beer on his breath was right. The Aggies paid. After the game, I waited in the wings to talk to my son, an Aggie Yell Leader at the time, as the crowd filed out. One OU fan saw my jacket, passed, turned, came back and said, "Nice Band!" That was the highlight of the day.
Now, January 4th, we'll get to see another fun college football game.
College sports amaze me, especially football. Think about this. There will be all these post-adolescent young men in full grown men's bodies, their coaches trying to get them to perform at their peak potential for three hours. That's a pretty big chore. But, it's fun as heck!

Ooops....sorry George!

I actually wish the Cotton Bowl was UT vs A&M.

ABSOLUTELY!!! mad It would've been a sell-out within 1-hr, AND some very expensive tv-commercial rates.

I miss the old classic Southwest Conference!
I grew up in a family of Aggies - father, uncles, two BILs - two cousins on the faculty.
As a kid we would listen to the games on the radio - Kern Tips announcing and "Jarrin" Jim Kimgrough was my hero.

WWII changed all that for me - Texas A&M - no girls and uniforms -
NO WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
