I have a link to the that site on my site and I've listed it here several times. It is ran by a friend of mine. A real go getter he post lots of info. I'll check out the winter issue and let you know if that is my ugly mug or not. Big POnd I want you to try a few blues anyway just to ease your curiousity about comparitive growth of blues vs. channels

There is actually a strain of catfish that is a mix of blue/channel. I think it may have started at Auburn University. We stocked several thousand of this supposed strain years ago and we have been tickled to death with the overall growth, disease resistance, and reproduction of these fish. I took my Uncle bass fishing in mid Nov. just before dark I caught 3 catfish on a baby bass Rapala lipless crankait dragging it across the bottom. The three totaled over 15 lbs. We have never had catfish hit artificial lures like these do. We typically catch 2-5 cats every time we go bass fishing now. We have caught them on top water, jigs, spoons, plastic worms, spinner baits, crankbaits you name it. Occasionally we catch offspring that look like pure blue cats, sometimes pure channel, and sometimes something in between.

Where in that internet page did it talk about growing Trouphy Channels?

Oh Greg, I thought you knew me better than that man! Of course, Blues will deffeinatly be in there.. If I could ever get this thing started. Just met with the pond builder and the whole project will cost $6,500 out of pocket, pluss $36,000 from the timber sale.

Big Pond I also have a source of the hybrid blue/channels that swampstalker mentioned. They may be more readily avail than the blues.
Bill, I could not get the pics to come up, but yes that keep or not to keep article was one I wrote last year, thanks.

Greg, what is your opinion of this blue/channel catfish hybrid? If you think they are good, do you have a source of them?
Posted By: big_pond Re: Good pond website - 01/14/04 04:38 PM
Greg I here stay away from the Hybrid Catfish, What do these guys look like? What are their Behavier?

Big Pond, I only have one client with the blue/channel mix. They look much like you would think with chacrteristics of both. They fed like channels. I have not fished for them but the pondowenr is happy. It seems to me to have similiar growth and feding habits of a channel. I will talk to hatchery and hear their take on them. I can't really see negative but not sure on positives either. Heck you could tag a few and post the growth here for blue vs. cahnnel vs. mix for all the world to read about.

I guess I will stay with the blue cat, but I am worried from other post that their might be an infearier strain of the blue cat that is not very tolorent of pond conditions, I mean these stories of them dieing when released bothers me aot......

The D&B strain of blue cats are raised here in Texas and have been sold for more than 20 years. They are very hearty in most conditions. We raise them on our farm.
