Pond Boss
Turkey hunting yesterday I was lugging out my turkey, when I walked by this pond. I had been hearing geese honking all morning, so I thought I’d see several on the pond. What did I see when I came over the dam? Pelicans! Do they migrate? What are they doing in Missouri?
Can’t get photo to load. But they were all pure white. Looked like pelicans..
yep they migrate...they showed up here about 6 weeks ago. They're all over the Mississippi river and pretty cool to watch flying in groups on the warmer days. Not so fun dodging them while out in the boat haha
Unfortunately, this is their diet:

"American white pelicans often hunt for food in groups. They will form a line and start swimming towards shore while flapping their wings and herding their prey towards the shore. Sometimes, one group of pelicans will even drive the prey towards another group of pelicans! The American white pelican eats up to three pounds of fish per day. It also eats salamanders and crayfish." (credit: http://www.nhptv.org/natureworks/whitepelican.htm)

So a group of 15 or 20 can really hammer the fish in a pond.
I was wondering about that. (Fish eating). Hope they don’t show up at my pond.
Thx
We have a bunch of them at a local lake right now here in Nebraska, check out their breeding range.
