So we came across this guy in the fence. Cut a stick with a tight Y and held him down. Then Todd grabbed his mouth good and tight no letting go. Then lifted him up and two of us got his leg out then flipped him over the fence.

Bet he was glad to see us.... kinda.

Well done! I remember years ago finding the skeleton of a dog hanging in a fence by it's hind leg. That fella would probably never have made it without you.

These are our local brush wolves or coyotes.

It was a nice frosty morning and I think he tried to jump the fence but didn't see the barbed wire on the top. One hind leg went through and with his weight coming down got it wrapped in the two top wires.

Craziest thing I have ever seen, or done hunting.

Yes I have as a matter of fact. But when I happened across the scene I was already too late. Horrible way to die.

At one time I spent 4 years outside of Phoenix while in the USAF. I married a local girl(turned out to be a mistake) whose parents lived about 30 miles out in the desert. They had the most massive Shepard looking dog I've ever seen. Since there was no shortage of coyotes, the dog spread his genes with the local ladies. The result was some huge and spectacular coydogs. Locals kinda worried about a wild canine that size but I don't recall there ever being a problem.

Had the exact same experience about 3 years ago - driving the kids to play practice one afternoon and took the country route. A coyote crossed in front of us and jumped a fence just like the one shown - hog wire topped with barbed wire. Same thing happened. I ran the kids on to church and came back. Threw on a pair of gloves and separated the strands, and off he went.

I'm not a fan of coyotes and when hunting will absolutely shoot one if given the opportunity. They are real terrors to most of the wild game around my area, not to mention domesticated small farm animals such as we have on the farm.

But nothing deserves to die like that.

I agree. We will round him up later in the year with the dogs. One of our hunter buddy's trains dogs to run these guys.
