Alright, heres a goofy question. If you are fishing on private property, do you have to have a fishing license?

Also do you have to abide by State limites such as minimums etc on private property.

This isn't a goofy question but the answer is likely a state by state thing. Here in Illinois the pond owner who lives on the property does not need a license but anyone else who fishes needs a license and need to abide by the regulations. If a pond owner does not live on the property then even he needs a license. I seldom fish anywhere but my own property but I always buys a license anyway. Hopefully some of the fee I pay helps support some part of the fishery program, conservation program, etc.

Thanks for the info Bing. I was just curious. Maybe some of the Texas "bosses" can weigh in.

In Texas the answer is no on both questions. So if you wanted to go out and catch 20 12" LMB for dinner you certainly could.

Go to Texas Parks and Wildlife and download the rules.

2012-13 Outdoor Regs

But no, you do not have to possess a license and there are no limits in private waters.
