With the moderators permission I would like to move this thread to this location. The reason it is much more serious than I have been letting all of you know. On August 22, our neighbors two sons were involved in a boating accident. The older son Chris was killed and the 16 year old was air lifted to South Alabama with head injuries and multible broken bones. He suffured a direct hit from the other boat. The driver of the other boat had caused a similar accident two years ago, he was drunk, hit another boat and killed another guy. That family sued and it took everything he had. Now two years later, he was driving his sisters boat with an blood alcohol of.25 with no insurance and he owns nothing. He is now in jail but that does not help pay the bills. Even if there is a law suit, anything that is won would go to the primary victum's wife. That leaves Shane hanging onto life by a thread with nothing. His parents do have medical insurance but that does not pay everything. It will pay for 30 days in rehab, but after that they are on their own. This morning, they were in the process of moving Shane to Jackson MS to start on evaluation and rehab. They were following the ambulance and started having car trouble, they called for us to bring another vehicle so they could continue to Jackson. We drove to New Augusta to meet them. They and the ambulance were waiting when we got there. Candy and Todd are both at their son's bedside as they should be.They are not working at this time and may not be for several months. Even if they returned to work, their mind would be on their son and they could not function. Now that Shane has been moved to Jackson, someone has to be in his room 24 hours a day. The expenses continue to build. The monthly expenses, like we all have, still have to be paid each month, plus they have added daily expense. While they were in Mobile, they had to stay in a Motel close to the Hospital, that was over $50. each day plus their food. We are doing all we can from this end. We have given funds thru two organizations we belong to and continue to do their mowing and care for the dogs. We also get their mail and take care of it as we are instructed. If they receive any money in donations, we make a deposit for them. This will be a long term rehab and in fact, Candy may not be able to go back to work if Shane requires home care. This is a good Christian family, they have helped others all their lives, now it is our turn to help them.

I failed to mention, if you want to make a donation, make your check payable to Todd Webb and mail to his address, 1113 Hwy 29, Wiggins, MS 39577. They need your donations and prayers.

Met with the Perkinston Masonic organization yesterday evening. Many know the Webbs and want to be involved in helping them. At the next business meeting they will decide how much and if some independently want to give extra it will be accepted at that time. One of the members came up to me after the meeting and asked if they needed help sooner . He was informed that help is needed now and that they are just barely hanging on and not taking care of other responsibilities. A large bill was produced to pass on to the family. Another member offered to take care of this at the next meeting to produce better results. We are excepting donations of what ever you are led to give, do not forget prayers. These people are in need of your donations.

Just an update on my “Fishing Buddy” Shane. We talked with Candy (his Mom) last night about 9:30 p.m. Shane was in surgery. After moving him to Jackson, they did an evaluation. After the day of tests, ex-rays, and scans they discovered the feeding tube that had been put in place in Alabama was not placed properly. The food was coming out around the tube and through the incision in his abdomen. That had to be fixed plus they may have to remove part of his small intestine. There is also a pus pocket in the lung where the tube was. They will clean that out and also set his arm. Depending on how well he does after this surgery, he will have another surgery on Monday or Wednesday on his arm. We haven’t talked with them this morning as the surgery was not expected to be over until around midnight.
Shane is still not out of the woods so keep those prayers coming.
There is a special account set up for Shane at Keesler Federal Credit Union. This account is for any special equipment or renovations they may need when they bring him home. It will not be touched for anything else. We just returned from the Bank where we made a deposit for them so they can pay the house payment. We checked with the teller at the drive thru and the bank has agreed, if you want to send a donation directly to the bank you may do so: Bank Of Wiggins, 109 W. Pine Ave, Wiggins, MS 39577. Be sure to include it is for the Todd Webb account. The phone number of the Bank is: 601-928-5233.

At the present we have been informed by Candy that things are looking up. This is day by day, two days ago if I had said anything it was not that great. Now it appears Shane mind is working as he knows his mothers telephone numberand other facts. He knew the month because he looked up on the wall and seen the calendar. I give him credit he is tough but the future will be more difficult and trying. The house payment has been made and we are working forth on other obligations. The credit in this area does not belong to me it goes for all of you that stepted up to the plate and helped--GOD bless all of you.

Sounds like good news. Hope everything all works out. The loss of a child at any age is got to be very very hard!!
Posted By: deaner Re: BOATING ACCIDENT - 09/15/09 02:53 PM
The parents are standing up relatively well during this situation. Probably when Shane gets better it will hit them hard. They are good Christians and this is a big help. To of lost one son is in its self a real tear down. They really appreciate everything that is being done for them and the prayers. Shan e has a few better days so it appears he has a chance of improvment. He has one arm that had to be reset and the hand is not releasing to normal position. Please keep them in your prayers.

Thanks for keeping us updated on Shane's progress. Prayers continue.

The latest update on Shane Webb. During surgery Monday morning, the Doctor scrapped as much of the shattered bone out as he could, he was able to save the main nerve in the right arm but does not guarantee he will regain the use of that arm. Also, the hand is drawn up and will not release so they have put a split on it hoping the nerves will start to function again. The other area they are watching closely is the hole in the skin on the inside of his arm, where the bone poked thru. Doc said the tissue is breaking down in that area. I am not sure what they can do about that?
Posted By: Omaha Re: BOATING ACCIDENT - 09/16/09 03:42 PM
Yeah, not sure either. Medical descriptions and procedures confuse me. Sounds like progress though. Thanks for the update.

Thanks for all the updates, Paul. I know that this is painful for you also.
We're pulling for Shane.
Posted By: deaner Re: BOATING ACCIDENT - 09/22/09 02:57 PM
Shane continues to make a light improvment. He spoke a little yesterday with my lady. He is very weak, has a hard time taking a little bit of food and three people managed to stand him up for a very short while yesterday. He is a little num on the right side and he will need speech therapy later also. He is at the point that he will progress a litle one day and possibly relapse the next day. We would like to spell the parents as soon as we can get the time so we can rest the next day. This is a very tough situation to stay up most of the night and take care of his needs. He is worth the effort. He is unable to take enough solid food as he had not taken any solid food for about one month and he now has a hard time keeping it down. He does not know that his brother was killed. That may come out in physical therapy so there is more backup to properly handle the situation. Funds are very tight for the family, we do appreciate what others are doing to relieve this situation. As always please pray for Shane and his parents. thanks

Happy to hear of the progress. This is a very tough situation this family is being faced with, many complications, and I can't begin to imagine how difficult it must be. Prayers are out for sure. Thanks for the update.

Yesterday and today are mowing and trimming days. We mow the Webbs yard and a widow lady down the road. Thes e are mowings with a thank you and we do not mind at all. Shane was finally moved to the rehab area. He has been there off and on but this appears to be more nomal at this point. Normal being a bad word. Shane was on his feet walking yesterday so the nurses will be more aggresive. His mother said he talks too much--joke. They have friends that will allow them time off Saturday during the day only. Shane will be rehabbing during this time probably. The people that know the family and want to visit are being told Shane may ask about his brother and to please not release any information. Your prayers and thoughts are a big help and are appreciated. I have a tough time talking about Shane in our meetings so I rush thru this part. It will be about a month more probably--if it goes as expected. thanks

Deaner:
You sound like a wonderful person, the kind the world needs more of. I hope 6 months from now the news is that Shane is really up and getting around, maybe he will be. I hope the drunk boater in the other boat had lots of insurance too.
Posted By: deaner Re: BOATING ACCIDENT - 09/25/09 02:54 PM
The driver himself would have no insurance as he was wiped out 2 years ago in another boating accident that killed a man. Chris was married and it was to a person of question. She will get anything there is and Todd and Candy payed for his funeral. Paid with help of a few other good people. The drunk boat drivers sister and his dad will be sued but this leaves no funds for Shane. Todd and Candy it appears will not get anything. Notice I used appears as I am not in the know so to speak. About me : I am not perfect and I do use words I should not use and as I let it be known I kicked the alcohol problem. I just like people and will do anything to help them. So you know me better, my lady and I set down to see if we could help the Shriners children. We ration where money goes. I know Todd will get some more in about 2 weeks from Masonic and myself and I will help the Shrine children. I need to keep a little back in case the Webbs need further help. Like I have said I lead a boring life to many peoples standard. I have no satellite or cable tv. By cutting in many areas I am able to help others that if I had everything I could not do. I am not perfect and I do ask for prayers. This is not a plea for myself I just desire to let others know me better. I am honest and will not let others gifts stick to my hands. Now you must know me. prayers please

You're a good man Paul. Good things tend to happen to good people. And bad things tend to happen to bad people. And in that vein, I hope justice is served on those who are responsible for this terrible accident.

I am shutting off everything except please continue your prayers for Shane and Parents. Thanks to all for the kind words. Shane will have a 1 day pass this next weekend so he can come home and see his dogs and relax. October the 20 th will be his release day from the hospital. His parents will need to take him to rehab at that time. I am shutting off all donations except for one that is working from the Perkinson masonic lodge. They still have a heavy need but I figured I will be able locally to carry this thru. Shanes right arm and hand is in the paralized position along with the left side of his face. Without help the parents could not of been able to help Shane . I have made sure that you are receiving the thanks and I was only the means of you being able to help. thanks it will not be forgotten

Paul, I know you wanted to close this, but is there anything new concerning Shane's condition?

Hey guys, I was looking into this tragedy and I found this "blog" on Shanes accident. The only reason I want to post this info is that they make several good suggestions specific to Shanes case. ... I think Shanes recovery both physically and mentally should be the primary concern.

Please add the link to the blog so others may read if they wish. - by ewest

Rgr that sir. http://www.mississippiaccidentlawyerblog...e-accident.html

I'm sorry, but that first paragraph from the blog just sickens me. ... I have no sympathy or otherwise for these cowards. Whatever happens to him we'll all be better for it. Ugh.

In a nearly related note, yesterday I was walking by the car of an employee of our company and noticed an open beer can in the cupholder/console. This guy's a truck driver so his paycheck depends on him keeping his license. Yet, it doesn't matter to him apparently, as I approached him about it and he just laughed me off. Man, it just really bothers me, these people. ..

Keep anything controversial out of it.

If you have advice you want to pass on, you can always PM to Deaner.

Shane is now home most of the time. Today he is spending in Jackson receiving therapy. Sometimes he acts as if he is 6 years old. We will see if the Shriners hospital can help him. To clear up what appears to be something of need--The boat that hit Shanes was stopped by a officer of conservation and the boat people were told to follow them to a more larger body of water. The boat took off and tried to get away and ran right over this other boat. The driver was drunk and was being held in place by someone else so he could drive. This driver in a past accident had paralized legs so he could not keep his body up to drive the boat. Shane is progressing well but the head injury may never be corrected. Only time will tell on this type of injury. The arm and hand is what I hope the Shriners could correct. My reason for desiring to not post any more on this accident is not to crowd others off this forum area. I remember that Pond Boss alowed this much and I did not desire to overdo my welcome. I will answer all questions.

Thanks Paul. Please keep us informed on Shane's progress and on the family's status.

Others you can help through your thoughts and prayers and or contact Paul (a good idea) , but note Sunil's concern. We are removing all discussion having to do with fault , negligence or criminal activity other than Paul’s report. We all understand the anger and hurt but this is not the place to strike out at those who may be at fault. I have no doubt that , in the end , they will be held accountable for their actions.
