When we arrived at the LNP pond project last weekend, there was a duck (hen) paddling about with 5 or 6 small ducklings. They surely didn't want anything to do with us, so they immediately followed the reeded shoreline in any direction away from us. I got one good look at the hen thru binocs and noted the average light brown/tan female colorings, but the distinguishing feature was a white ring around the eye.
This had to be a WD, right? Could it be anything else?

B-ski, check your bird book on the differnt types of teal too, they might have a very similar look also.

I don't have any photos of WD females. It seems like the males are more cocky and posed for photographs!
