When colder water enters a pond, does it sink immediately or disperse? I have a spring that comes in at the surface, and I am wondering if there is more of a chance for the pond bottom to erode there because the spring is cold and would that tend to make the water run across the bottom of the pond to the deepest areas?
Colder water is denser water, so it'll stay on the bottom until it warms up. I don't think you have to worry about eroding the bottom because there's nothing to keep it in one place so it should spread out. I'm pumping 25 gpm into the pond and see no erosion on the bottom even in an area that is 3' wide.
Thanks esshup. Thats what I was thinking too. Just wanted to make sure because it would be easier to do something now before it fills all the way up.
