I got my results back from Texas A & M. Looks like Iron is off the charts and have a big FA issue. pH is 6.8

Any suggestions for the best solution to this? All the other parameters were low.

What was your alkalinity ? Any fish in the pond ? Are you using well water?

I would deal with the F.A. Problem 1st.. with Tipipia.. I really don't know what to tell about the iron problem.. But I can tell you, that my water well has lots of iron, but my cattle, yard, and fish in the pond have no problem with the iron content of my Well..

Alkalinity is 46 ppm CaC03.

I had the full analysis and A & M says everything else in acceptable range, except for the Iron (11.19 ppm)

The explanation sheet says domestic water should be .3 ppm Fe, irrigation 5 ppm, and watering cattle over .3 cause taste problems for the Livestock.

Yes, there is fish in the Pond. We are in the process of culling out 75 LMB and have already removed about 25. Last week, all we caught were Channel Cats. There are Bluegills and Sunnies, but we haven't caught any of those yet at all (just during the Electro-survey).

Were those values from the water or dirt from the pond bottom ? At the time did you have low water (drought) and if no well is it spring fed ? Odd that the watershed is nutrient poor but the pond not so much. Had it just rained so that it may be run off caused?

The Pond is WAY full. It was taken from an end of a Pond that has run off, but it was taken after a long time without rain.

It is not well or spring fed. It's just a hole in the ground but it's 4.8 acres and about 25 ft. deep.

The values were from the water, not the dirt. I submerged the bottle before opening it.

I am battling Turbidity, though, and 22 tons of Gypsum only cleared it up about 5 inches. I might be sampling the erosion that is being waved away as we speak! (Gosh it's windy out there!)

I may have a similar problem. we fill our pond from a well with 5ppm iron. The memorial day flood in Bastrop put a huge amount of water in and through our pond. The problem started about a week ago in our 1/4 acre pond. It now has red scum floating on top, it almost looks like bronze metalflake paint. The mass gets thicker as the day heats up, then around dusk the mat starts turning green. At night is mostly sinks or dissipates.
Under microscope the stuff looks like gold green balls, not volvox, just round uncilliated cells (as far as I can tell with a cheap microscope).
Our soil is mainly sand with a red clay strata anywhere from surface to 10 feet down. We are in the Bastrop forest fire area.
The fish are fine, lots of bream, minnows, some catfish and goldfish. We have skimmed with a makeshift boom once with minimal effect.
Any Ideas on what this is, other than really really ugly.
