As a Newbie I am interest in the different manual type weed cutters. I looking at the lower cost ones for smaller areas since my business still doesn't have a big demand for this type of service. I am a full service Pest Control operator here in Florida and would like to do more Aquatic work. From the little bid of Aquatic Weed Control I have done, I found manual removal of weeds was the Quickest way the get a handle on the pond. Grass Carp have been kind to me also.

I am the typical Newbie with the dumb questions because I don't know enough to do a forum search with the correct Aquatic terminology. I plan on picking every one's brain who is willing to response. BTW Great Forum. I am state of Florida certified in Aquatic Pest Control. That means I passed a 50 question Multiply Guess test asking questions like "Is Glyphosate a contact or systemic herbicide??".

If you can afford it the Jenson Lake mower would be nice. See link under Pond Boss and then resources. They're not over priced but you pay for quality. They say they sell used ones from time to time. I use one of those weed cutters that is a large 'y' shaped blade that I throw out and retrieve through the weeds.

I don't have enough calling at this time to justify the expense of a Jenson Lake mower. But thank you for the reply.

At this time I am thinking of the real Manual throw and drag type rakes. I was hope some one might have experience with them and could advise me which one to try. At present time I don't have the first job I could use a Manual Weed control Device on. While I have been doing a couple ponds for a few years now, I really have not marketed Aquatic work until now. Fact is I am more or less starting out.

I can understand that which is why I said, "if you can afford one." I can't justify the expense either but it is a quality piece of machine. Like I said I have really good luck with the 'y' shaped cutter that you throw out and retrieve. It really does a number on cattails.

There are several sites for weed rakes. Try the weed razor or something similar.

I have a weedrazor and rake which I purchased to help control my pondweed problem. What I discovered was that the pondweed has such a slender "stem", that it tended to just wrap around the cutter and get pulled out by the roots, instead of cleanly sliced off.

I think it would work better on a more substantial plant, something with a more robust stalk, or stem. I posted a review of my experience with the razor and rake on the forum....just not sure where.

Just make sure what weeds you are manually removing. If the weed can propagate from pieces like Eurasian Water Milfoil, you can actually make the weed problem worse by helping it spread quicker.

Thanks for all the Replies Guys. I don't have a Manual Clean out job at present time, but at least I have the information to bid one. I am putting together a marketing Plan and hope to have enough Retention and Detention pond work to justify buying a Motorized model. Florida is loaded with water, However Need and Demand for Aquatic Weed Control are two different things
