Hello all,

First post here and first time pond owner. We just bought some property with a 3 acre pond on it. The pond is about 20 years old and was stocked with LMB and BG by the person that built it. We have had access to the pond for 3 years before buying it, but now that we own it, we want to manage the pond better. I've done some research and I was thinking that i was dealing with F. Algae, but after raking some of it the other day, I'm thinking otherwise now. I'd appreciate some help in identifying what I'm up against. Thanks a lot in advance.

Might help to get a small piece of it and spread it out on a white sheet of paper for a better photograph.

Love that aerial shot! great looking place.

Thank you. I'll get better pictures this evening. These pictures were already on my phone and I'm away from home at the moment. Thanks for the response.

I read about raking the vegetation out, and even though it's a lot of work, I was prepared to do a big portion of the pond. However, when i started working, i noticed a bunch of small nymphs and insects in the vegetation, so i stopped. I don't want to take out valuable forage and ecosystem. I'm starting to figure out there's way more to pond management than initially meets the eye.
