Can anyone help with this? Pond is well over 20 years old , last year i started getting this green stuff on top of the water. When it rains its all gone, a few hours later it gets like a grayish dusting over it and by the end of the day its all green again? Where the bubbles are from the airator there is never any of it. Anyway to get rid of this and what is it . It doesn't look like typical algae that you can just pull out. Looks like a coating ot op of the water . It looks horrible. Has been going on since beginning of May.

I tried to get rid of mine initially by using a pretty hard copper sulfate treatment on one section of the pond over several days. I would spray it from the bank, let it die off, wait a few days so the breeze would pack new green where the old had been. Then hit it again. It just kept coming up, even after applying pond dye. I finally decided that the biggest difference in my pond and those that never seem to have this issue are those ponds get a lot of wind activity and surface agitation, where my pond sees no wind and is like glass 95% of the time.
I DIY'd a fountain that creates surface agitation and circulation and within 24 hours the green scum was gone. That was about a month ago. I run the fountain 6 hours of the early morning only now due to heat issues, but the scum hasn't come back...yet. My visibility is now 36+", so it could be the bloom finally ran its course.
This time of year (surface temp 95F) I get a scum on the water each morning. Usually there is a breeze that takes it to the shore.
I've always considered this decaying plankton. It has never caused any problem and I consider it normal. It is only visible along the windward shore except on those rare mornings (like today) where there is no breeze.
The fish and wildlife don't mind it so I don't either.
I've never seen it cause any issues either, other than being an eyesore because the pond is just outside the front door. When your pond is isolated and doesn't get any wind to speak of, it usually covers the entire pond. Luckily, enough southern airflow tends to move some of it to the north side, but not enough to clear the surface.
