I have a 2.5 acre pond that was built around an old windmill and well. The windmill works perfectly, I was wondering how hard would it be to rig up some sort of aeration to this?

I have made several inquiries and am yet to have any success. One Co. was "working" on a possible prototype. If you find anything I hope you'll keep us posted.

It seems to me that a windmill normally wouldn't be very good for aerating. They usually put out very low pressure water, and you need a forceful stream to aerate. I guess you could choke down the output and see what kind of pressure you get.

Maybe an air pump could be swapped for the water pump, and you could use a bubble aerator.

We have a windmill that we put around our acre plus pond and it is in the deepest end and it aerates just fine. I would think this is definitely the way to go if you can get your windmill rigged as such. When we had our pond clinic here, this was brought up as the better way to go than ones that just throw water on the surface. I've not had any problems with fish dying or the like...keeps the pond from freezing over totally. Just my two cents........

I'd think something could be rigged up from one of the commercial windmill aerator mfgs.

Mark,

Can you please explain further how you have your windmill set up? I don't understand "it is in the deepest end".

Does this mean that it is on the bank near the deepest part of the pond? Where exaclty is your discharge?

Thanks

We have a one acre pond with a peninsula facing the west and the dam facing east. The windmill is on the Southeast end on the deep end. We have the aerator stone sunk in the deep middle section there. If you are talking about the discharge (air/stone), it's in the deep part of the water, we put the aerator in a bucket with rocks and sunk it there.
