I have a 1 and 1/2 acre pond and would like to add a fountain to help with aeration and to improve the looks of the pond. Is there any rule of thumb as for as the size of the fountain that I should get for this size pond? Also, do you lose very much water to evaporation/wind with a fountain?

Thanks

When I was building my pond before pond boss web site I was going to put in a large fountain as well. It was going to be lit up with LED lights the whole deal. After I educated myself on pond boss I learned that fountains were only for looks if your primary goal is fish.

The fountain would loose way more water to evaporation than it would add air to the pond water. Don't get me wrong they look great when its not windy. Here every day we have wind. Wind will strip so much water from the pond with out a fountain I chose to go with a waterfall and aeration stations.

Our primary goal is swim pond with fish the kids can catch and eat. Second is the look it adds to the front yard of the farm. I am so glad in the long run I did not spend the big money on high HP water pump to run a fountain but my goals was not 90% looks 10% fish.

Cheers Don.

What size all depends on your pocketbook and what you feel comfortable spending per month on energy (electric).

I've seen fountains that were so large that in a high wind the water was being carried a good 100+ feet outside of the pond onto a road.....
