I've been trying to get my BG to feed on pellets for several weeks now, a few come but not many.
My question is will the turtles affect the BG feeding? I now have around 25-30 turtles that are always waiting on the feeder to go off, will the large number of turtles discourage the BG from feeding?
I've gone through maybe an bag and a half of aquamax 500 and there is very little BG feeding.
Feed in the same location and same time each evening.
There was a period of time a couple weeks or so ago that there seemed to be better BG feeding but since it has declined and the number of turtles has increased.

Layne, I don't worry about turtles until they start waiting around for the feeder to throw. When that happens, they have to go.

Google turtle traps to get some ideas about DIY construction, and turnkey products. I set mine away from the bank, but close to the feeder throwing lanes. Doing that targets the problematic turtles.

Thanks, these are definitely waiting around for the feeder to go off, they start accumulating an hour or so before it throws.

I know the turtles are good for cleaning up the pond so I hate to get rid of them but man there sure are a lot of them.

Layne,
I think I have quite a few (too many) turtles for the size of my pond. They know when the feeder is getting ready to go off just like the fish do. They do get some of the pellets, but compared to BG, GSF, CC, BC, and LMB, they are cumbersome and slow. The turtles usually clean up what the fish don't eat....if any. They do get a floating pellet or two if they are close enough to them, but most of the time the fish will pop up and take it from right in front of them. They don't bother me much. I have red ear sliders from hard hat size down to the size of a golf ball....I may have to thin them out again later this summer to a nearby creek. I built a floating trap a couple of years back and cull out a few periodically. Good luck.

Layne,
If you are interested, below is a pic of a turtle trap that I built just looking through the internet for ideas, and for more than half the price of the traps listed. It floats just above the surface and works very well.
