Just a note of warning. Treat the new Aquamax plastic bags with care. The seam on the one I just got this past weekend split from one end to the other causing a big mess. I'm sure they're cheaper to produce than the old ones, but the process may not be perfect yet. Hopefully this was a single occurrence and not the norm.

Totally agree, not a fan of the new bags! Yet the new bags of AM LMB food are plain-label brown bags with no markings at all except for the tag.

Plus my local CO-OP is now charging $48 for a bag of AM600 cry It was $38 in July!

Not had a problem yet and they are more moister resistant and easy to open. Now like the GFC bag. AM LMB Feed is still in brown paper. Our prices have not gone up much so it must be your Co-Op.

I love how easy the new bags are to open. So much nicer.

Just bought a bag of the AM500, $38. Pleased that our local outdoor and horse store can custom order any food from Purina at a reasonable price. Hopefully my fish will eat it...
Posted By: esshup Re: Beware New Aquamax Bags - 09/11/13 04:22 AM
Just bought 3 bags Friday. No price change from earlier in the year.

It is my Co-op! I can drive 50 miles to get it at $38 or 1 mile for $48. They couldn't explain the price difference but said they'd look into it wink

When you custom order what's the lead time? AM600 is floor-stocked at the Purina plant here in Lincoln but the AM500 and LMB food must be ordered and it's 2-4 weeks. I'm going into the 3rd week waiting for the AM500.
Posted By: RC51 Re: Beware New Aquamax Bags - 09/11/13 01:19 PM
I have to custom order all the time and it takes about 2 to 3 weeks for me to get my order so I try to plan ahead on that sort of thing so I don't run out.

I order all of mine a week out. On occasion it may take a few extra days on LMB. GFC always on time. Once when the plant went down it took 2 weeks to get AM 600.

I haven't had any issues with the new bags tearing yet.

I walked away from filling my iron filter the other day and the tanks overflowed onto the basement floor. Sure glad the feed bag was plastic!

I am bummed the minimum order for the astaxithin enhanced feed now is two tons. I'll have to add it myself now.

I have not kept up with Purina since they had production problems and son Jeff took over pond management. He's not happy with Purina and switched to Cargill. Local feed store wanted all of bad AQMX used up before ordering more.
Fish doing well on Cargill fish food.

George thanks for the post. I bought 6 bags of AM500 in the last month or so and have had at least 3 split at the seams. I just thought it was because the day I picked them up it was hot and by leaving them in the truck it weakened the seal. It can definetely make a mess in a hurry.

No problems with getting different sized food. Order in by Thursday, food in by Tuesday.

Scott, if I remember right I think the Aquamax I order comes out of Richmond, IN, possibly manufactured there?

Yes it's normally made there.

My store claimed about a week. Since it is my first time ordering, I will have to wait and see.

I was wrong the new bag is not waterproof (perhaps at the seam?) although I'm sure it's moisture resistant. I had to pick out wet feed from the bottom of bag.

Picked up some AM 600 today and on the back is Bob's pic and some text. Will post a pic.

That's been on the bag for a few months now Eric.

I must be buying up all the old stock. Still have not seen the bag change.
Posted By: ewest Re: Beware New Aquamax Bags - 09/26/13 10:38 AM
I have some I got a mth ago with the new bag but no Bob pic.
Posted By: Lovnlivin Re: Beware New Aquamax Bags - 09/26/13 12:17 PM

Fortunately the local Purina plant floor-stocks AM600 and I'm picking some up tomorrow so it'll be interesting to see if it's donned with Bob's picture laugh

But the AM 500 I ordered 4 weeks ago still has not arrived. And to think I tried to order in advance.

When my COOP guy called yesterday to tell me about the 500, he asked how often I need each food (500, 600 and AM LMB) so he could be sure to always have it on hand for me when I need it. God bless him! As the previous COOP I worked with refused to pre-order for fear of being stuck with it, which is understandable but I assured him my fish will always need food.

So hard to believe there can be such delays!

I see. May have something to do with me being within 75 miles of the plant.
Posted By: esshup Re: Beware New Aquamax Bags - 09/26/13 02:18 PM
My supplier started getting the new bags around the first week of July.
Posted By: ewest Re: Beware New Aquamax Bags - 09/26/13 02:21 PM
There must be more than one new bag in use. I got some in the new bag in Aug with no Bob.
Posted By: esshup Re: Beware New Aquamax Bags - 09/26/13 02:24 PM
Interesting. All of mine have had his picture on it.
Posted By: Bing Re: Beware New Aquamax Bags - 09/26/13 02:33 PM
Ewest, it will be interesting to see if Bob has a comment on the bag without his picture. It was probably a limited run before they had formalized any arrangement he had with Purina.
Posted By: liquidsquid Re: Beware New Aquamax Bags - 09/26/13 04:01 PM
Still waiting for mine. So much for the 1 week timing of my local store.
Posted By: Cecil Baird1 Re: Beware New Aquamax Bags - 09/30/13 12:32 PM
What about Bob? grin
Posted By: liquidsquid Re: Beware New Aquamax Bags - 10/06/13 06:42 PM
Well, almost three weeks of waiting. Finally showed up!
Posted By: djstauder Re: Beware New Aquamax Bags - 10/07/13 02:53 PM
I got a bag of AM500 abut 3 weeks ago that had Bob's pic on it. The bags do feel sorta flimsy
Posted By: sprkplug Re: Beware New Aquamax Bags - 10/07/13 03:12 PM
I love the new bags. I think they're a lot easier to open.

If anyone gets a bag without Bob on the back, could you please take a picture of the front and back of the bag and send it to me?
Posted By: ewest Re: Beware New Aquamax Bags - 10/07/13 04:09 PM
I will see what I have and let you know.
Posted By: liquidsquid Re: Beware New Aquamax Bags - 10/10/13 02:32 AM
Bob was on mine. I like the bags, easy to open, seemed durable enough to transfer to buckets.

Pictures sent in PM

I just picked up this bag last Friday, Coop said it came out of St Jo, MO as the Purina plant in Lincoln had none. Didn't bother looking at the date when I picked it up because I had been out almost a week and just happy to get it.

Then tonight looked at the date stamped on the bag because there was no tag; dated 6-12

Not happy!!!

We had temps drop from 87 last Friday to 55 on Saturday and the fish have hardly ate since. Yet this week has been back in the low 80's but still not eating, even the BG. I thought it was the temp change but could it be the old food?
Posted By: ewest Re: Beware New Aquamax Bags - 10/10/13 10:44 AM
If the food is not moldy then its the weather. I bet its temp drop. Fish take a while after temp changes to adjust. What is your water temp ?

LL send me a PM with the pic.
Posted By: lassig Re: Beware New Aquamax Bags - 10/10/13 12:01 PM
Got 5 bags with my rainbow trout last night. One already had the seam opening up on one bag. Got the trout from Herman Brothers and they where a little bigger than expected. Average size was over a pound. Put in 40 pounds. They look really healthy.

Thanks Ewest,

The food is not moldy and I'll check the water temp when I go out to feed this morning.

Water temp @ 7:45 AM was 60 at the surface, 62 at 4' (off the dock) and air temp was 56 with evening lows around 53.

Feeding was back to normal this morning, engulfing AM LMB and AM 600 grin

Thanks again!
Posted By: ewest Re: Beware New Aquamax Bags - 10/10/13 03:22 PM
They will be eating for about 5 more degrees of water temp +- but feeding will decrease with the temps.
