I planted 200 1 1/4 fish yesterday and was confident that I would start feeding them in my new pond in about a month, today I am not as confident, the guy at the hatchery recommended starting feeding them in a couple of days and the fish are showing up at the place I stocked them. I did notice them striking anything in sight. So should I wait, feed or does it matter?
As an aside, 100 of these are nile tilapia, all male hybreds, breed to be tame for ease of handling when harvesting and all to be the same size. They are breed for aquaculture and I offer this only for those who are thinking about stocking tilapia, if you check with the aquaculture farmers in your area you might find fish similar to mine, which would give you a manageable forage fish.
