I just got a call from my Aquamax dealer who informed me that Purina had a recall on Aquamax 2000 (5D07) manufactured between April to June. If anyone has bags with these dates on the bottom of the bag, check with your local dealer. I was told the reason for the recall is that an excessive amount of vitamin D was added which may be detrimental to the fish if used for a long period of time.

Thanks for the headsup. I don't have any 2000.

Seems most members are geared more towards bass, bluegill, etc. but there may be some with catfish or talapia out there. smile

I had thought about trying this out to feed my catfish in the pond and my Tilapia in my tank.

But I have just been using GFC, AM500, AM600 in my pond and AM400 for my tilapia since it has the higher protein, I figure it will help get my Tilapia to there largest size possible.

Thanks

According to my dealer it's not just the the feed mentioned above it's the Aquamax 5D05 (500) and 5D06 (600) also. She's instructed me to bring in my bag(s) and I may get a replacement although there is no 5D06 for replacement today when I pick up my 5D01. I've used most of mine up; I even crushed the 5D06 for my fingerlings for several days.

Nothing on the website that I can find:

Keep in mind my feed is made locally in Richmond, Indiana so perhaps this may not apply to those who have feed milled elsewhere? I have also be told by another source some of the fine size feeds are manufactured by someone else.

Our dealer just contacted us about the AM500 recall citing high vitamin D content.

I did get new 500 and 600 today. I was mistaken thinking I'd have to wait.

I just filled my feeders up yesterday with 500 and 600 and then my dealer calls today and says they have been recalled. Do i need to take it out of the feeder? what are the dates affected? He will have to order more and i will be out of feed for 2 weeks waiting on more!

Don't know what to tell you. It would be nice if Purina Mills had something on their website to let us know how much of a problem too much Vitamin D is.

I used most of mine up and my fish seem fine though.

I ordered AQ500 yesterday, and when I inquired as to the recall my supplier knew nothing about it. Hopefully, I will get some before I run out.

I spoke at length with Dr. Gordon Ballam about the recall. He said the feed was being recalled because of "too high amounts of Vitamin D." I specifically asked him if it was a problem, or a danger, for fish to eat. He said it definitely is not an issue for fish. He said that when the feed formulas were tested originally, they specifically focused on the different vitamins to make sure they were well within the bounds of fish nutrition. He said the problem here was with a vendor and that the amount of Vitamin D exceeded what the recipe called for. While it's no problem for fish, it could be a problem for other animals which eat it. He said that there are some aftermarket businesses which buy their feed and (beyond their control), repackage and use it for other animals. So, the recall is a precaution because the Vitamin D exceeds what the formula specifically states. It was for feed manufactured between April and May.
All their AquaMax Feeds are manufactured at the Richmond, Indiana plant and they think it will take a couple of weeks, maybe more, to catch up their "pipeline".

Thank you Bob. It's always a good thing when I don't poison my fish!

Well my dog eats a fair amount while I'm feeding the fish. In fact other than going to the folks for lunch next door it's the high point of her day. I hope she will be O.K.

I have about used all mine up, I have noticed a decline in BG activity and have did not catch one BG on Saturday at my pond that I feed AM.

I am sure there is nothing wrong with the feed, but action was less than poor.
