I have a friend that will let me play with his farm pond. The pond is very healthy but there is gold fish in the pond. Big one not koi but man there are some big ones.

He would like to have some fun fishing the pond but don't want to do any work.

My thoughts were to stock it with some large mouth bass as they would be the only option to gobble up the larger gold fish. Then try to trap or fish out the larger gold fish.

Is my thoughts correct? What other options would be good?

Cheers Don.

It could be done but, for the bigger ones, the LMB would have to be 3 or 4 times as large as the goldfish.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Are they hurting any thing? Perhaps leave the larger ones to make smaller ones for the LMB to eat. LMB will need lots of food so why not goldfish if they are already in the pond.

They are not hurting anything just are the only fish in the pond. It would be nice to have some fun fish to catch in the little pond.

Cheers Don.

Bass is one that is most naturally found in most ponds around here. I was thinking of large mouth bass for the size of these gold fish.

Cheers Don.

Add a few and see how they grow, as with all ponds you will soon have lots of LMB and few pry fish so you will have to manage for that I would think. I would assume Bass will eat and deplete gold fish like they would BG.
