Location
NE Kansas pond 1 acre 8 foot deep

Observations
Water turbid temp high 60s
Adult bluegill and crappy dying other bluegill eating feed as if nothings wrong.
No bass seen dying
Bass tough to catch possibly in the act of spawning
Bluegill spawning, stirring up silt.
No fish gulping for air on the surface.
Counted 20 dead bluegill and 4 crappy.
Crappy population is maintained at low numbers
I first noticed a couple dead fish 2 days ago.

How about a bird? I've heard that sometimes they kill more than they can eat.

Your right about that but birds leave holes in the side. I have seen this many times

Nobody had any ideas on this one. My final theory was contaminated fish feed. This was the same time the pet feed contamination from china was reported.

I have a similar problem in my pond. (2 acres in south Alabama). I've noticed an average of 2 dead blue gill per day for the last 3 weeks. (5 this morning) There are heron and egret around but I don't notice any damage to the fish. Tails and eyes missing on some which I assume is turtles. No catfish, RES, or bass are dying. I have been feeding twice per day and stopped fertilizing this spring. Any ideas would be welcome.
