I'm seeing a good amount of largemouth and smallmouth bass and some large bluegills lazily suspended below the surface in my .62 acre warmwater pond on hot sunny days. Some are under the pier, but many are out in the open in groups of 8 or 10. They are not gasping for air, and I do not have any D.O. problems that I am aware of. I have an algae bloom with a secchi dish transparency of about 25 inches.
The bass run from about 12 inches to 20 inches and the bluegills tend to be 8 to maybe 10 inches. I do not have a lot of structure or cover in the pond, and this may have something to do with it.
Is this normal? I have not seen this too much until this year.
If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Hey Cecil, I have seen it alot with Bluegill and often with bass though seldom are there more then 2 or 3 bass together. Note that the B-Gilll hit anything that touches the water above them...
