That is about step 3 or 4 in the new pond process. Step one is to determine your goals for the pond. All of the rest of the steps are dependent on step one.

BTW, welcome to Pond Boss. Most of us here also luv2fish.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Start reading on this stuff. This can be the equivalent of an advanced degree in fisheries mgt.

My recommendation is to subscribe to PB magazine. After quite a few years of doing this, it still answers questions that I didn't know to ask. The best book I've ever read on this stuff is Raising Trophy Bass by Bob Lusk, the owner of Pond Boss. Now he has a new book called The Perfect Pond. I've read parts of it and it takes you through every step of the processes you are about to begin. These things will save you thousands of bucks and lots of grief. These are, by far, the cheapest part of the process.

The only advice I can give you that isn't covered in any of the books is not to lie to your wife about the costs. You're gonna get caught.

Hi Luv2fish. Welcome to PB, you have found the right place. Got questions about ponds - - this is absolutely THE place to be.

Like the other folks said, I highly recommend that you read, read and then read some more. Start with the archives. I haven't seen Bob Lusk's new book but his books on Raising Trophy Bass and Managing a Pond are excellent. Also do an internet search on "pond management" or "farm pond management" there are lots of excellent publications out there.

This process will help you define what the goals are for your pond.

Don't hesitate to ask questions the unique part about this forum is that you have access to some of the best minds and industry experts (and also some demented minds but I don't want to scare you off).

Anyway, welcome to the PB forum, glad you found it.
