Howdy I'm Tyler from Santa Fe Texas, I have a small maybe 1/4 acre pond that was dug around a year and half ago. It was stocked at that time with blue cats, copper nose blue gill, large mouth bass and fat head minnows. I also have an aeration system in the pond. I looking to just have a good well balanced pond with relatively clean water would be happy with even just 24" of visibility. Guess my question seem to be very common but HELP please. I fight dirty water it stays a cloudy grey color. At one point it got extremely clear but the musk grass in the pond was super thick. Once it died off last winter it turned great again. Side note I turn aeration off in winter. Any help getting the color right in pond would be great. Thanks

Welcome Tyler! Lots of great folks on this forum, including more than a few experts in things pond related. I'll start you off with this thread: http://forums.pondboss.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=470492#Post470492A jar test may be very instructive. And 24 inches of visibility may be very good, actually. You should subscribe to the magazine too, which had an article about this just recently... You can also get back issues.

Welcome to the forum! I have two ponds each about the size of yours. My newest pond was built last December, filled this spring, and was very clear until about a month ago, when a plankton bloom started. If the turbidity is not mud, you might let it play out and see what happens. Are you feeding the catfish enough? If not, they may stir up the bottom foraging for food. Visibility of 24 inches is good.

Something is keeping that water stirred up. Most likely would be wind and bare dirt on banks, or catfish. My guess is the catfish. Would you rather have clear water or the catfish?
1.8 acre pond with CNBG, RES, HSB, and LMB Trophy Hunter feeder.
