A friend of mine just received some reds as a gift last week. I know they're kinda like the mutts of the tilapia world. Do they eat algae just as good as the blues? (besides the temperature range). Are they as prolific breeders as the blues? And do they grow as fast as the blues? Plus they would stick out like a sore thumb for those blue herons.

I know its late in the season but he recieved them from a person getting out of aquaponics. He may keep some of them indoors all winter if its worth it... Thanks

I read that they try to pass red tilapia off as red snapper filets... worse case you got a good eating fish.

Mark...Red Tilapia are a essentially mutated, hybridized mozambique and do a decent job but grow/reprodyce far slower than parentage.

Rex, That what I kinda figured... I'm thinking they would do better as an aquaponic fish.

Still love your avatar though smile.
