Have a new 5 acre lake. Will stock this fall- we want to stock LM Bass, Black or White Crappie, blue gill, channel and some channel/blue cat hyb - and maybe some walleye or HSB- doing alot of reseach and wondering the numbers of fish and timing of stocking/size to stock. This lake is in NE Missouri about 1/2 hour south of the Iowa line- any and all advise appreciated. Leaving the crappie out is not a option - everything else is! We built this lake according to the Ray Scott videos if anyone has seen them so plenty of drop offs to deep water, plenty of rip rap on shore, pea gravel spawing areas, and cover brush. It is about 35% 2-4 ft water, 40% 4-10 ft water, and about 25% 10-25 ft water. Water is clear meaning you can see down 24 inches- we are considering fetilizing to decrease visablilty. It gets clear over the summer and mid winter months and of course is much less clear during rainy periods of sping and fall.

Sounds like a neat lake/pond. Lusk had a long answer to the crappie situation and what the chances are in a recent Pond Boss Magazine. I think it was in the Q & A portion. Anybody remember what issue that was?
Here's the bottom line. You just might be successful with crappie in 5 acres or you might lose. The big, big odds are; sooner or later you're gonna hate crappie. But, it's your pond. I expect it will be an interesting experiment. If you change your mind in the future, there are chemical fixes as long as the AG doesn't find out.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.
